This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a precision machining environment, enjoys mentoring machinists, and takes pride in delivering high-quality work on time. About the Role The Machine Shop Foreman oversees daily shop operations, ensuring production runs smoothly, safely, and efficiently. You'll be responsible for scheduling work, monitoring job progress, solving technical challenges, training machinists, and serving as the primary leader on the shop floor. This position plays a critical role in meeting customer expectations and supporting internal teams. Key Responsibilities Planning & Scheduling Develop optimal manufacturing methods, including machine selection, setups, and routing Plan and prioritize jobs to meet deadlines Coordinate activities of machinists, CNC operators, and shop personnel Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and CAD models Work with Purchasing and Expediting to ensure material readiness and outside processing coordination Monitor Work-In-Progress Ensure machining processes meet tight tolerances and quality standards Troubleshoot tooling, equipment, and production issues in real time Verify proper machine setup, operation, and maintenance Coordinate with Foremen of Mechanical and Welding divisions as needed Supervise, Train & Mentor Train, coach, and evaluate machinists and shop personnel Provide productive feedback—both positive and for improvment Address attendance, safety, and performance issues Conduct annual employee performance reviews Safety & Compliance Enforce safety policies and OSHA requirements Lead toolbox talks and post-incident reviews Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas Communication Provide timely updates to Project Managers, Engineers, and the Office Administrator Communicate delays, challenges, or material issues promptly Process Improvements Recommend efficiency improvements, new tooling, and technology Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production to optimize workflows What You Bring Strong leadership and team-development skills High mechanical aptitude and machining expertise Excellent time management and organizational abilities A sharp eye for quality and detail Confidence making decisions under pressure Strong communication skills across all levels Success Looks Like… Jobs run on time, per print, and without quality issues Project Managers and Engineers receive clear and timely communication Machinists feel supported, trained, and held to high standards A safe, efficient, and disciplined shop environment Continuous improvements to process, efficiency, and job flow Benefits Competitive pay Paid time off Paid holidays PPO health insurance through United Healthcare where the employer pays 60% of the costs and the employee pays 40% (including family members enrolled) 401k plan with a company match of 100% on the first 3% contributed and 50% on the following 2% contributed.
