SECU Caring House provides an affordable lodging option and supportive community to Duke Cancer Institute patients and their caregivers who call SECU Caring House home during treatment. We provide lodging for 18 adult patients receiving long-term cancer treatment at the Duke Cancer Institute. Patients may have one or two caregivers stay with them during the course of their treatment with an average length of stay being 4 weeks. In addition to comfortable accommodations, SECU Caring House also offers a "home away from home" environment for healing. The community that grows among the guests provides a source of support, compassion, acceptance, hope and comfort.

Compensation:
$27/hour plus additional stipend for emergency calls. Position Summary Employee performs maintenance and repairs of physical structures of buildings and grounds, as well as performs preventative maintenance of SECU Caring House. This is a part-time, hourly role: the employee checks in two scheduled days per week to perform routine maintenance tasks as needed, and must also be available on an on-call basis to respond to facility emergencies outside of business hours. Key Responsibilities Maintain and execute preventative maintenance programs to protect the physical asset. Ensure HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and other building systems are functioning optimally through hands-on repair and oversight. Perform general facility repairs, including fixtures and furnishings. Recommends equipment and supply purchases for repairs and replacement Maintain the koi pond, including water quality monitoring, filtration upkeep, and cleaning. Perform roof and gutter upkeep, including blowing leaves and debris off the roof. Conduct on-call emergency service as needed. Respond to facility service requests in a timely, thorough, and professional manner. Perform other facility maintenance duties as assigned. Required Qualifications The candidate must be dependable and responsive, with a professional demeanor, a keen attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively under deadlines. We seek a candidate with a positive and collaborative attitude who values teamwork. In addition to a commitment to the mission of SECU Caring House, the preferred candidate must have: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of related experience and/ or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Maintenance experience in hospitality or hospital industries is a plus. Physical demands for this position include sitting, standing, bending, walking, lifting, climbing ladders and moving up to 60 lbs. Valid driver's license required. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot independently. Reliable, punctual, and comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
