Job Description

This position is for a role in a growing, family-run dairy operation focused on running efficient, well-maintained equipment and facilities to support a high-performing farm. We're looking for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys solving problems, and wants to be part of a team where reliability and follow-through matter. The Role As Assistant Maintenance Manager, you'll be responsible for keeping farm equipment and infrastructure running reliably day-to-day. This includes preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and helping organize maintenance systems so things don't fall through the cracks. You'll also support seasonal operations and occasionally step in to help where needed. This is a hands-on role for someone who is self-motivated, dependable, and takes ownership of getting things done right the first time . What You'll Be Doing Maintain and repair farm equipment (tractors, trucks, skid steers, implements) Perform preventative maintenance to reduce downtime Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical issues Maintain dairy facility systems (pumps, compressors, heaters) Support manure and water management systems Track maintenance, parts, and inventory; help keep systems organized Operate equipment during planting and harvest seasons as needed Keep the shop and work areas clean, safe, and functional Support seasonal priorities and occasional cross-team needs What Success Looks Like Equipment runs reliably because issues are addressed early You don't wait to be told what to do—you see what needs attention and handle it Work is done safely, thoroughly, and efficiently The shop stays organized and usable Other team members can count on you to follow through Schedule Typically 40-65+ hours/week depending on season Longer hours during planting, harvest, and peak periods What We're Looking For Self-motivated with a strong work ethic Takes ownership and follows through without constant oversight Comfortable working independently and with a team Able to prioritize and stay organized in a fast-moving environment Willing to learn and take on new challenges Preferred Experience (but not required) Diesel and gas engine repair Hydraulic systems Basic electrical troubleshooting CDL license Agricultural or heavy equipment experience Physical Requirements This is a working farm role and includes: Standing/walking for long periods on uneven terrain Working indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions Lifting up to 50 lbs Bending, kneeling, and repetitive physical activity Compensation & Benefits $20-40/hour depending on experience and independence Overtime over 52 hours Potential 401(k) contribution matching Potential housing benefits Paid time off after probationary period Potential annual bonus
