Job Description
Superintendent of Buildings (Provisional) Ossining Public Library Ossining, NY The Ossining Public Library is seeking an experienced and collaborative Superintendent of Buildings to oversee the operation, maintenance, and care of our modern public library facility and grounds. This leadership position is responsible for ensuring that our buildings, building systems, and grounds remain safe, well-maintained, and welcoming for staff and the public. This is a provisional appointment subject to Westchester County Civil Service requirements. The successful candidate must meet all minimum qualifications at the time of appointment and may be required to take and pass a future Civil Service examination.
Salary & Benefits Salary:
$85,259-$108,139, depending on qualifications and experience Comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, New York State Retirement System membership, paid vacation, sick leave, personal leave, and holidays Key Responsibilities Oversee the operation, maintenance, repair, and upkeep of the Library's buildings, building systems, and grounds. Collaborate with the Library Director and Assistant Director in developing and monitoring facilities budgets. Manage service contracts and ensure contractor performance and compliance. Conduct regular inspections to maintain high standards of safety, cleanliness, and facility condition. Coordinate maintenance projects and prioritize repair work. Supervise maintenance staff and outside contractors. Prepare reports and maintain records using standard computer applications, including spreadsheets, email, and databases. Perform other related duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities The successful candidate will demonstrate: Thorough knowledge of building maintenance operations and repair practices. Working knowledge of construction methods and building trades. Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and delegate work effectively. Excellent supervisory, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to prepare clear, accurate reports and maintain records. Proficiency with standard computer applications. Sound judgment, initiative, integrity, and attention to detail. Ability to communicate effectively in English. Minimum Qualifications Candidates must meet one of the following: (A) Bachelor's degree- and four (4) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of buildings and grounds, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity ; OR (B) Associate's degree
- and six (6) years of qualifying experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity ; OR (C) High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma and eight (8) years of qualifying experience, including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity .
- Degree requirements are subject to the standards established by the Westchester County Department of Human Resources.
