Position Summary The Fleet Maintenance Director is responsible for leading all aspects of the company's fleet maintenance operations, ensuring our trucks, equipment, and shop facilities operate safely, efficiently, and at the highest level of reliability. This position plays a critical leadership role in maximizing fleet uptime, controlling maintenance costs, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement. The Fleet Maintenance Director oversees the maintenance, repair, and preventative service of the company's fleet, including single-axle trucks, tandem trucks, box trucks, pickup trucks, trailers, and related equipment. This individual leads the shop team, manages maintenance schedules, coordinates with operations, and ensures every vehicle is ready to support our customers. Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all daily fleet maintenance and repair operations. Supervise, train, mentor, and evaluate mechanics, technicians, and shop personnel. Develop and oversee preventative maintenance programs to maximize vehicle reliability and minimize downtime. Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards. Coordinate inspections, repairs, warranty work, and vendor services. Manage shop workflow and prioritize repairs to support operational demands. Maintain accurate maintenance records, repair histories, and compliance documentation. Oversee inventory of parts, tools, equipment, and shop supplies while controlling costs. Develop annual maintenance budgets and monitor expenditures. Negotiate with vendors and suppliers to obtain quality parts and services at competitive pricing. Analyze maintenance trends and implement process improvements to increase fleet efficiency and reduce operating costs. Collaborate with Operations and Dispatch to ensure fleet availability and minimize service interruptions. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment. Respond to emergency breakdowns and coordinate timely repairs when necessary. Qualifications Extensive experience managing commercial truck maintenance operations. Strong mechanical knowledge of diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles. Experience with preventative maintenance programs and fleet management. Thorough understanding of DOT regulations, vehicle inspections, and safety compliance. Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with maintenance management software and computerized work order systems is preferred. Valid driver's license; CDL is a plus. Preferred Experience Experience maintaining single-axle trucks, tandem trucks, box trucks, pickup trucks, trailers, hydraulic systems, and heavy equipment. Knowledge of welding, fabrication, hydraulic repair, electrical diagnostics, and diesel engine systems. Experience managing maintenance budgets and vendor relationships.
