Job Description
Position Summary The Chief Engineer is responsible for the overall maintenance, safety, and functionality of the hotel property. This position oversees preventive maintenance programs, ensures compliance with Marriott brand standards, and maintains all building systems, guest rooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities. The Chief Engineer works closely with hotel management to provide a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for guests and associates. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Manage the day-to-day operation of the Engineering and Maintenance Department. Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for guest rooms, public areas, and mechanical equipment. Inspect the property regularly to identify maintenance needs and safety concerns. Maintain HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire safety, life safety, kitchen equipment, elevators, and other building systems. Respond promptly to guest maintenance requests and emergency repair situations. Coordinate repairs and maintenance with outside contractors and service providers. Ensure compliance with Marriott brand standards and property maintenance requirements. Monitor utility consumption and implement energy conservation initiatives. Maintain accurate maintenance logs, work orders, equipment records, and inspection reports. Prepare and manage the engineering department budget while controlling maintenance expenses. Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, fire, health, and local building codes. Maintain emergency preparedness procedures and participate in emergency response activities. Assist in capital improvement projects and renovations. Train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate maintenance team members. Participate in hotel leadership meetings and contribute to operational planning. Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies, tools, and equipment. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Technical degree or trade certification preferred. Minimum 5 years of hotel engineering or facilities maintenance experience , with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role . Experience with Marriott-branded hotels preferred.
