Job Description

General Manager — Landscape Maintenance Position Overview Salty Air is seeking a hands-on General Manager to lead the daily operations, financial performance, and growth of our commercial landscape business. Our services include landscape maintenance, enhancements, installations, and irrigation. The General Manager will build and lead a dependable team, deliver consistent service, strengthen client relationships, and improve profitability. This position requires a leader who is comfortable reviewing financial results, meeting with property managers, and working alongside field supervisors to solve problems. Key Responsibilities Operations and Service Quality Oversee daily operations across maintenance, enhancement, installation, and irrigation services. Manage staffing, crew schedules, routes, equipment, and materials to complete work efficiently and meet contract requirements. Conduct property inspections and hold teams accountable for appearance, workmanship, and service consistency. Plan for seasonal workload changes, weather disruptions, and urgent client needs. Coordinate fleet and equipment maintenance to reduce downtime and protect company assets. Financial Management Take ownership of operating budgets, job profitability, labor productivity, and controllable expenses. Review estimated versus actual labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs; address problems promptly. Work with ownership to establish revenue and profit goals and report regularly on performance. Review proposals, contract renewals, and change orders to support appropriate pricing and margins. Coordinate with office staff to ensure accurate job documentation, timely billing, and follow-up on outstanding receivables. Team Leadership Recruit, train, coach, and retain supervisors, crew leaders, field employees, and other assigned staff. Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability. Conduct regular team meetings and performance reviews. Develop supervisors who can manage crews, communicate effectively, and resolve issues. Promote a culture of safety, professionalism, reliability, and respect. Client Relationships and Business Growth Build strong relationships with property managers, facility managers, owners, and other commercial clients. Address service concerns promptly and follow through on corrective actions. Lead account reviews and renewal planning to support client retention. Identify enhancement opportunities within existing accounts, including plant replacements, mulch or pine straw, drainage, sod, irrigation upgrades, and landscape improvements. Support sales, estimating, site walks, and the transition of new contracts into operations. Ensure sales commitments match the company's capacity and service standards. Safety and Accountability Reinforce safe work practices, proper equipment use, and company policies. Maintain accurate operational records and oversee incident reporting and corrective action. Manage warranty work and callbacks, identify recurring causes, and improve processes. Qualifications Five or more years of landscape industry experience, including at least three years leading teams or managing operations; comparable experience will be considered. Experience managing commercial landscape maintenance contracts and multiple field crews. Ability to understand financial statements, budgets, job costing, and labor performance. Working knowledge of landscape maintenance, plant care, irrigation, and enhancement projects. Strong communication, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Experience with estimating, scheduling, CRM, or landscape business management software. Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly to client properties.
