The Street Foreman supervises the daily operations of street maintenance, including road surface repairs, signage installation, pothole patching, and right-of-way mowing. This position leads field crews, coordinates equipment and materials, ensures safety compliance, and maintains city infrastructure to meet service standards. The Foreman plays a key role in seasonal operations, emergency response, and long-term maintenance planning. Crew Leadership & Scheduling Assign and oversee daily work tasks related to street repairs, mowing, signage, and right-of-way maintenance. Provide leadership, direction, and training to street maintenance crews. Monitor crew performance and ensure productivity, quality, and safety standards are met. Street & Roadway Maintenance Coordinate and participate in pothole patching, base repairs, crack sealing, and asphalt/concrete work. Inspect roadways for surface damage or hazards and determine repair needs. Maintain inventory of repair materials and ensure timely completion of work orders. Mowing & Vegetation Control Supervise mowing crews responsible for maintaining roadside ditches, rights-of-way, and city properties. Ensure safe operation and maintenance of mowing equipment and brush cutters. Coordinate seasonal mowing schedules and storm debris removal as needed. Signage & Traffic Control Oversee installation, replacement, and maintenance of street signs, traffic control signs, and pavement markings. Ensure signs meet MUTCD (Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices) standards and are placed safely and correctly. Maintain sign inventory and report damaged or missing signs for replacement. Emergency Response & Support Respond to after-hours emergencies including storm cleanup, debris removal, and hazard mitigation. Assist in road closures, detour setup, and recovery operations during severe weather events. Support storm preparedness by inspecting and maintaining road infrastructure. Other Duties Perform other related duties as assigned. Skills & Competencies Knowledge of street repair methods, traffic control standards, and mowing operations. Ability to lead crews, manage schedules, and ensure compliance with safety procedures. Experience operating heavy equipment and using basic hand/power tools. Familiarity with MUTCD standards and work zone safety. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Qualifications Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of experience in street maintenance, mowing, or public works operations. Supervisory experience preferred.
