Technical Proficiency Full Job Description Shop Foreman:
Oversees the daily maintenance, repair, and safety operations of the rental fleet, over the road assets and repair shop. They manage service technicians, prioritize repair workflows, ensure equipment readiness, and enforce safety standards.
Key Responsibilities Fleet Maintenance & Repairs:
Direct and schedule routine maintenance, inspections, and emergency repairs for rental fleet equipment (e.g., earthmoving gear, aerial lifts, generators, small tools).
Team Leadership & Supervision:
Manage, schedule, and train shop technicians and mechanics. Conduct performance reviews and enforce safety protocols (OSHA compliance, PPE, hazard communication).
Inventory & Parts Management:
Oversee parts inventory, order necessary components, manage supplier vendor relationships, and maintain low unit downtime.
Service Operations & Scheduling:
Coordinate with rental desk and counter staff to prioritize turnarounds based on customer demand, reservations, and field calls.
Quality Control:
Perform final quality checks on repaired and serviced machinery before returning items to the active rental line.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
3-5+ years as a diesel mechanic or heavy equipment technician, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory or shop leadership role.
Technical Knowledge:
Proficiency in mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine diagnostics/repair across diverse equipment lines.
Certifications:
Valid driver's license (CDL preferred); relevant certifications (e.g., ASE, manufacturer certifications, aerial work platform inspections) are a strong plus.
Skills:
Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, and basic computer proficiency for shop management software and work-order tracking.
