GENERAL FUNCTION
This is the work of semi-skilled labor involving the reading water meters and maintenance of the meter system.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintains meter system and reads meters.
  • Drives maintenance vehicles and may be assigned to work orders from Utility Billing Division.
  • On call nights and weekends in case of emergencies.
  • Will handle turn-offs, turn-ons, meter pulls, meter change-outs, replacement of meter boxes and lids.
  • Performs related work as assigned or required.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of a Class "D" Water Operators License or be able to obtain one within six (6) months of employment date.
  • Physical strength and agility to perform strenuous labor tasks under varying weather conditions, temperature extremes and work long hours.
  • Knowledge of the City's meter system.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the public, fellow employees and administration.
  • Ability to instruct new employees of the proper work procedures.
  • Possession of a valid Oklahoma State Driver's License and a driving record acceptable to the City's insurance carrier.
  • Physically capable of performing duties in extreme temperature variances.
  • Capable of lifting objects over 50 lbs. at frequent intervals.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to make common-sense decisions.
  • Ability to pull call on nights and weekends in case of emergencies.
  • Responsible for notifying the supervisor of problems in the field.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience in meter reading.
  • Experience in construction or pipeline operations.
  • Experience in light equipment operations.
  • Possession of Oklahoma Commercial Driver License.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND GIVEN
Works under the direction of the Water Line Maintenance Supervisor and/or Crew Chief; however, is required to exercise judgment in the performance of duties. This job classification has been designated a safety-sensitive job classification in accordance with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act, 63 O.S., § 427.1 et seq., (OSCN 2019), effective August 29, 2019.
