POSITION SUMMARY
The Utilities Technician provides key support for the utilities in the manufacturing facility. This position is knowledgeable of utility systems and equipment and has the ability to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair equipment throughout the facility. The Utilities Technician works under the supervision and direction of the Utilities Supervisor by completing work orders, carrying out preventative maintenance schedules, and assisting with the installation of new equipment. Teamwork and coordination are essential to this position's success. The Utilities Technician must be able to work collaboratively and promote teamwork within the maintenance department and across other functional departments.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES AND PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Observes mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble. Sets up and operates tools used to diagnose and repair equipment. Dismantles functional systems and tests components. Starts systems, observes operation, reads gauges and instruments, and adjusts mechanisms such as valves, controls, and pumps to control fluid levels, pressure, and temperature. Starts devices and equipment to test performance. Keeps maintenance shop and assigned areas neat, clean, and organized. Completes assigned work orders and preventative maintenance tasks in a timely manner. Provides critical maintenance support as needed. Plans activities and works to minimize overtime. Maintains shop and hand tools and stores them securely when not in use. Maintains, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on boilers, DA tanks, feed water pumps, City RO systems, and chemical distribution equipment. Repairs and maintains steam piping and equipment and performs daily chemical testing and adjustments. Maintains, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on air compressors, air dryers, oil separators, and main air lines throughout the plant. Maintains, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on refrigeration units, glycol pumps, cooling tower pumps, cooling towers, glycol lines, and valves. Conducts daily chemical testing and adjustments to protect refrigeration equipment. Maintains, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on wastewater equipment, pumps, piping, valves, drains, and plumbing systems throughout the plant. Maintains, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on equipment associated with the plant's main water supply. Maintains and replaces air filters as necessary. Follows OSHA regulations and all company safety requirements. Adheres to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures. Communicates safety concerns and issues to management. Serves as a proactive and engaged member of the maintenance team. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required:
High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent work-related experience.

Two-year HVAC Certification.

Refrigerant Recovery EPA Certification.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in the dairy or food manufacturing industry.

Equipment Operated:
Boilers, air handlers, refrigeration and compressed air equipment, mechanical tools, welders, lifts, multi-meters, ammeters, and megohmmeters.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to frequently climb and descend ladders while performing job duties. Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 pounds. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to perform tasks requiring manual dexterity, including keyboarding, handling paperwork, and operating equipment. Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach as required by job duties.
