Job Description
Job Overview We're looking for a Commercial HVAC/Refrigeration Service Manager to lead our team of field service technicians. This role owns the performance, training, and day-to-day supervision of the crew, while staying close enough to the technical work to jump in on complex diagnostics, quality checks, and customer escalations when needed. You'll be the bridge between the technicians in the field and the business results we need to hit — first-time fix rates, response times, callback rates, and customer retention. What You'll Do Supervise, support, and develop a team of commercial HVAC service technicians, including performance reviews, coaching, and skills development plans Review and approve technician diagnostics and repair recommendations on complex or high-value commercial jobs, and personally handle escalations that require a higher skill level Set and enforce safety, quality, and code compliance standards across all service work Partner with dispatch to prioritize service calls, manage technician workload, and hit response time commitments Handle customer escalations professionally to protect both the relationship and the company's margins Track, report, and identify where training or process changes are needed Oversee truck stock, tooling, and equipment needs for the team; manage vendor and parts relationships as needed Onboard new technicians as the team grows Participate in on-call rotation for after-hours emergency coverage Experience Required 5+ years of hands-on commercial HVAC service/troubleshooting experience (rooftop units, commercial split systems, chillers, controls) 2+ years in a supervisory or lead technician role, managing or mentoring other techs Demonstrated experience reading commercial mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and sequence of operations Experience with commercial building automation/controls systems is a strong plus Experience managing customer relationships and handling service escalations directly Required Skills & Certifications EPA Section 608 Universal Certification (required) Valid driver's license with a clean driving record Strong technical knowledge of commercial refrigeration cycles, electrical systems, and controls troubleshooting Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals Strong leadership and coaching skills — able to give direct, constructive feedback Solid communication skills, both with technicians in the field and with customers Ability to stay calm and solve problems under pressure Preferred Qualifications Prior experience specifically in a "Service Manager" or "Field Supervisor" title Physical Requirements Ability to lift 50+ lbs, climb ladders, and work in rooftop/mechanical room environments Comfortable working in varying weather conditions and confined spaces Ability to respond to after-hours emergency calls
