This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and commissioning commercial chiller systems and related mechanical equipment throughout the Rio Grande Valley and surrounding South Texas areas. The ideal candidate will have strong electrical, refrigeration, mechanical, and controls troubleshooting skills and be capable of independently servicing commercial HVAC equipment. Experience with air-cooled and water-cooled chillers, chilled-water systems, pumps, cooling towers, boilers, and building automation systems is highly preferred. Responsibilities Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial air-cooled and water-cooled chillers. Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, seasonal startups, shutdowns, and emergency repairs. Service compressors, refrigerant circuits, evaporators, condensers, pumps, valves, motors, starters, sensors, and control components. Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control-system failures. Read and interpret wiring diagrams, electrical schematics, equipment manuals, mechanical drawings, and control sequences. Use multimeters, clamp meters, megohmmeters, refrigerant gauges, vacuum pumps, recovery equipment, and other diagnostic tools. Perform refrigerant recovery, evacuation, charging, leak testing, and system commissioning in accordance with EPA requirements. Inspect chilled-water systems, pumps, strainers, cooling towers, boilers, and related hydronic equipment. Assist with equipment replacements, major repairs, compressor work, piping modifications, and startup activities. Interface with building automation systems and HVAC controls to diagnose operating problems. Explain equipment conditions, repair recommendations, and maintenance needs clearly to customers and supervisors. Complete accurate service tickets, inspection reports, refrigerant records, parts documentation, and time records. Follow company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, EPA regulations, and customer site policies. Participate in an on-call rotation when required. Travel to customer facilities throughout the Rio Grande Valley and surrounding areas. Maintain assigned company vehicle, tools, equipment, and service inventory in a professional manner. Qualifications Commercial HVAC service experience required. Documented chiller service and troubleshooting experience strongly preferred. Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, compressors, heat exchangers, motors, pumps, valves, starters, sensors, and controls. Ability to independently diagnose electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and controls-related failures. Experience servicing air-cooled or water-cooled chillers. Experience with centrifugal, screw, scroll, or reciprocating chiller equipment is preferred. Knowledge of chilled-water systems, cooling towers, pumps, boilers, and hydronic systems is preferred. Ability to read electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, mechanical drawings, and manufacturer service literature. EPA Section 608 Universal certification required. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required. Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, email, and digital service software. Strong customer-service, communication, and documentation skills. Ability to work independently and safely manage assigned service calls. Ability to work in mechanical rooms, rooftops, elevated areas, and outdoor conditions. Manufacturer training or certifications from Trane, Carrier, York, Daikin, McQuay, or similar brands are highly preferred. Compensation $32.00-$48.00 per hour, based on documented chiller experience, certifications, electrical and controls troubleshooting ability, and the ability to independently service commercial equipment. Overtime, on-call compensation, paid training, and advancement opportunities may be available. Work Location This is an on-the-road position serving commercial and institutional customers throughout the Rio Grande Valley and surrounding South Texas areas.
