This is a great position for someone who knows their way around boats and can independently handle many of the everyday repairs and maintenance needs that come with yacht ownership. You do not need to be our expert in every system. We already have specialized technicians handling areas such as advanced electrical, HVAC, and complex generator/mechanical work. We're looking for the versatile technician who can handle a wide range of general marine service work and knows when something should be handed to one of our specialists. What You'll Work On The work will vary from boat to boat and may include: Marine plumbing diagnosis and repair Freshwater and raw-water systems Bilge pumps and float switches Sanitation systems and heads Pumps, hoses, fittings, valves, and filters Water heaters Battery replacements and basic 12V electrical troubleshooting Lighting and other basic electrical repairs Deck hardware and miscellaneous equipment Preventative maintenance General mechanical repairs Identifying leaks and other developing problems Replacing failed components Troubleshooting everyday vessel systems Completing punch-list items and general yacht repairs Supporting other technicians on larger jobs when needed Some days you'll know exactly what the repair is before arriving. Other days the job will simply start with, "This isn't working. Figure out why." You should enjoy that. What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who is mechanically inclined, dependable, and comfortable solving problems independently.

You should be able to:

Troubleshoot rather than simply replace parts Work independently once a job is assigned Understand basic marine plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems Use common hand and power tools safely Follow technical instructions and diagrams Recognize when a problem requires a more specialized technician Identify additional maintenance or repair needs while aboard a vessel Document what you found and what work was completed Communicate clearly with our Service Advisor and other technicians Keep jobs and work areas clean and organized Treat customers' boats like they matter Experience Previous marine service experience is preferred. We are also interested in candidates with strong transferable experience from plumbing, automotive, RV, mechanical service, facilities maintenance, construction, or other hands-on service trades. For the right mechanically talented person, we care more about what you can actually diagnose and fix than where you learned how to do it. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required. How Our Team Works Charleston Yacht takes a team approach to yacht service. You won't be expected to solve every advanced electrical, HVAC, engine, or generator problem yourself. You'll work alongside technicians with deeper specialties in those areas. Your role is to be the well-rounded problem solver who can take care of the wide range of everyday systems and repairs our customers need. When you find additional work a vessel needs, you'll document it for our Service Advisor, who handles the customer communication, approval, and scheduling so you can focus on doing great technical work. Compensation $25-$35 per hour, depending on experience and capabilities. Someone toward the lower end of the range may still need support on more complicated diagnostics. Someone at the top of the range should be able to take a service call, diagnose most general marine-system problems, determine what is needed, and complete the repair with minimal supervision. Full-time, year-round work. Work Environment This is a field-based position servicing vessels throughout Charleston-area marinas. You'll regularly work aboard boats, on docks, outdoors, and occasionally in tight spaces. The position requires the ability to lift and move tools, equipment, and components associated with normal marine service work.
