Video Game Console Repair Technician Skylar Racing, Inc. - Chesapeake, VA Skylar Racing, Inc. is seeking a skilled and mechanically inclined Video Game Console Repair Technician to join our team. We process a high volume of video game consoles, handheld systems, controllers, and other gaming electronics and are looking for someone who can diagnose problems, perform repairs, and get systems back into fully working condition. This is a hands-on electronics repair position . The ideal candidate is comfortable taking electronics completely apart, identifying faults, replacing damaged components, soldering, reassembling devices, and thoroughly testing completed repairs. What You'll Work On You will diagnose, repair, refurbish, and test a wide variety of gaming hardware, including: PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PS2 and other PlayStation consoles Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and other Xbox consoles Nintendo Switch, Switch Lite and Switch OLED Nintendo Wii, Wii U, GameCube and other Nintendo consoles Nintendo DS, DS Lite, DSi, 2DS and 3DS systems Game Boy, Game Boy Color and Game Boy Advance systems Sony PSP and PS Vita Controllers, accessories and other gaming electronics Vintage and modern gaming hardware Responsibilities Diagnose hardware failures and determine the cause of console and handheld issues Disassemble and reassemble gaming consoles and electronics Perform soldering repairs on electronic components Perform board-level repairs when appropriate Replace damaged ports, connectors, buttons, joysticks, fans, drives and other components Diagnose power, charging, video output, overheating and connectivity problems Inspect circuit boards for corrosion, liquid damage, damaged components and previous repair attempts Clean and refurbish consoles internally and externally Test repaired systems to confirm full functionality before completion Identify systems that are not economically repairable Keep repair areas, tools, parts and workstations organized Accurately track repairs and communicate what was repaired or replaced Qualifications Required /

Strongly Preferred:

Previous soldering experience Experience diagnosing electronics or hardware problems Experience performing electronics teardowns, disassembly and reassembly Ability to safely work with small electronic components, ribbon cables, connectors and circuit boards Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills Ability to work independently and efficiently Excellent attention to detail

Highly Preferred:

Microsoldering experience PCB / board-level repair experience Experience using a multimeter for electronics diagnostics Experience with hot-air rework stations and soldering stations Experience replacing HDMI, USB-C, charging or other board-mounted ports Experience diagnosing shorts, damaged traces, blown components or power-related faults Previous professional experience repairing video game consoles, computers, phones or similar electronics Examples of Repairs Repairs may range from relatively simple component replacements to more advanced board-level work, including: HDMI port replacement USB-C / charging port replacement Joystick and analog stick replacement Disc drive repairs Fan and cooling system repairs Battery replacement Button and connector repairs Power-related troubleshooting Liquid and corrosion damage Broken or damaged board connectors Soldering and microsoldering repairs General console refurbishment and preventative maintenance What We're Looking For We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys taking electronics apart, figuring out why they don't work, and fixing them correctly . You don't necessarily need to have repaired every type of video game console before. Candidates with strong electronics repair backgrounds involving phones, computers, laptops, circuit boards, automotive electronics, or other consumer electronics are encouraged to apply. Advanced microsoldering and board-level diagnostic experience is a major plus. Because we handle a large volume of gaming hardware, speed, consistency and repair quality are all important. The goal isn't simply to make a device turn on — repairs should be performed properly so the system can be confidently tested and resold.
