Position Summary The Field Technician is an in-field, technical role supporting the installation, commissioning, and validation of meteorological (MET) systems for GroundWork Renewables. This is physical, hands-on work performed on active solar construction sites across the country, under the direction of a Lead Field Technician. Key Responsibilities Technical & Field Execution Perform installation and commissioning of MET systems under the direction of the Lead Field Technician and Field Managers Assemble and install mounting structures, sensors, enclosures, and associated hardware Perform complex wiring, testing, troubleshooting, and validation of instruments Support configuration and maintenance of datalogger programs, operating systems, and firmware Assist with system performance and validation tests Support completion of commissioning activities, including documentation, photo sets, and instrument validations Communication & Coordination Work under the direction of the on-site Lead Field Technician, following their guidance on daily priorities and site standards Communicate progress, issues, and safety concerns to the Lead Field Technician promptly Assist with logistics, equipment movement, and team transportation, including driving rental/company vehicles Safety & Compliance Follow all site-specific safety procedures and company safety policies Use personal protective equipment (PPE) correctly and consistently Identify and report field risks to the Lead Field Technician, Field Manager, or Project Manager Qualifications & Experience Travel & Logistics Able to travel 100% of the time, Monday through Friday, for extended field assignments across the U.S. Residence within 30-40 minutes of a major commercial airport Valid driver's license, minimum age 21 (per company vehicle rental policy) Technical Experience 1-2 years experience as a field technician in solar, wind, or environmental monitoring systems preferred; candidates with strong mechanical/electrical aptitude and less experience will be considered Mechanical assembly and electrical wiring/troubleshooting skills Basic understanding of communication devices operating on TCP/IP and Modbus protocols a plus Professional Skills Proficiency using PC computers with basic hardware, software, and networking knowledge Good communication, organizational, and documentation skills Familiarity with EPC site operations and construction safety requirements a plus Strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational standards Ability to work well as part of a field team in remote locations with minimal supervision Physical Requirements Ability to lift, carry, and install field equipment and tools Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and remote environments Ability to work at heights and on construction or undeveloped sites GroundWork is a Certified B Corporation and proud equal opportunity employer.
