IMPORTANT

This is a 1099 independent contractor position. No employment relationship is established with Hype Telecom, LLC. You will operate as your own business entity, responsible for your own taxes, insurance, and compliance with all applicable laws. No benefits, overtime, or employee perks are provided. No guaranteed hours - gigs depend on client demand. Project Overview Hype Telecom is seeking a local Fiber Optic Technician to assist with fiber characterization testing at telecommunications facilities in the region. The technician will receive remote assistance from a VIAVI specialist during the testing process. Advanced fiber characterization experience is preferred but not mandatory.

Responsibilities:

Assist with bidirectional fiber testing Connect and operate fiber characterization equipment with remote guidance Perform OTDR, ORL, OIL, CD and PMD testing Inspect and clean fiber connectors Follow the testing procedures provided by the remote VIAVI specialist Save raw test files and assist with report generation Communicate clearly with the remote support team and project manager

Requirements:

Previous hands on experience with fiber optic cabling, telecommunications facilities, data centers or field technician work is preferred. Basic familiarity with fiber testing equipment, such as OTDR, optical power meter and fiber inspection tools, is preferred. Experience with fiber characterization testing, including OTDR, ORL, OIL, CD or PMD, is helpful but not required. Remote assistance from a VIAVI specialist will be provided. Knowledge of fiber connectors, including LC, SC, FC, UPC and APC, is preferred. Ability to inspect, clean and safely handle fiber optic connectors and patch cords. Ability to follow detailed instructions and operate testing equipment with remote technical guidance. Access to a laptop with USB capability, mobile internet and permission to install any software required for testing and report generation. Smartphone with camera and reliable mobile data. Valid driver's license, reliable personal transportation and ability to travel to the assigned site. Ability to bring basic fiber tools, fiber cleaning supplies, extension cord, power strip and appropriate PPE. Ability to work in a secure telecommunications facility and comply with all site safety and access requirements. High school diploma or equivalent is preferred. Fiber optic, telecommunications or networking certifications are helpful but not required. Must be available for the confirmed work date and remain on site for approximately 8 hours. Must communicate clearly with the project manager and remote VIAVI support specialist throughout the activity. Must be physically capable of safely handling equipment cases and materials weighing up to 50 pounds.

Required Tools and Equipment:

Fiber characterization equipment capable of performing OTDR, OIL, ORL, CD and PMD testing will be provided. The technician must bring a laptop, smartphone with mobile internet, fiber cleaning supplies, basic fiber optic hand tools, extension cord, power strip and appropriate PPE. Having a Visual Fault Locator, Optical Power Meter, Light Source and additional fiber adapters is preferred.

The testing equipment will be provided. Exact site address and access instructions will be shared only with the selected technician. Work dates are expected during the week of September 28 through October 2, subject to final client confirmation.
