Utility Locator Utility Locator Technician (Entry‑Level)
Pay:
$21.50-$25.00/hour , based on experience
Location:
Fridley, MN (Field‑based; travel required)
Schedule:
Monday-Friday | Start time 7:00 AM until work is completed

Approximately 50% to job sites Job Overview Join a leading Utility Engineering and Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team as an Entry‑Level Utility Locator Technician and build a long‑term career in the infrastructure industry. This is a year‑round, field‑focused position with hands‑on training in utility locating, designating, and modern surveying technologies. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and being part of a safety‑focused, high‑performing crew. Key Responsibilities Locate, identify, and document underground utilities in the field Assist crews with identifying, locating, and occasionally exposing sewer and underground utility systems Operate SUE locating and designating equipment (pipe/cable locators, vacuum excavation tools) Use hand and power tools including jackhammers, pogo tampers, concrete saws, air lances, and vacuum hoses Maintain accurate daily logs and perform basic math calculations Assist with traffic control setup and follow safety procedures Support survey and data collection activities Perform daily equipment inspections and routine maintenance Required Skills & Experience Basic math proficiency Experience using hand and power tools Minimum 3 months of construction or field labor experience Ability to lift up to 75 lbs At least 6 months of outdoor work experience in varying weather conditions Preferred Qualifications Surveying or utility locating experience 6+ months of survey experience (preferred) Additional Requirements High School Diploma or GED Valid driver's license Why You'll Love Working Here Competitive pay with advancement opportunities Paid training and professional development Medical, dental, and vision insurance Wellness programs Paid time off and holidays Overtime opportunities Boot and clothing allowance Company‑provided cell phone or allowance Food allowance for overnight travel 401(k) with company match Life and disability insurance Tuition reimbursement Bonuses and employee discounts Work Environment Field‑based role working outdoors year‑round Use of vacuum trucks and excavation equipment Office located in Fridley, MN (team of ~15), with most work performed in the field Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fridley, MN. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $21.50 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
