In person / Field-based Job Overview Premier Infrastructure & Energy is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Utility Locate Technician to identify and mark underground utility lines before excavation and construction activities. This position involves fieldwork, interpreting utility records and maps, operating locating equipment, documenting findings, and communicating with customers, contractors, and project teams. Responsibilities Locate and accurately mark underground utilities at job sites. Use electronic locating equipment and related tools to identify utility lines. Read and interpret utility maps, plans, and records. Investigate utility locations and identify potential conflicts before excavation. Clearly mark utility locations using appropriate paint, flags, or other approved methods. Document completed utility locate work accurately and promptly. Follow company procedures and applicable utility-locating standards. Communicate professionally with contractors, property owners, and other field personnel. Report damaged, missing, or difficult-to-locate utility information. Maintain and properly operate locating equipment and company vehicles. Work safely around roads, construction sites, excavation areas, and other field hazards. Complete assigned work orders within required timeframes. Maintain accurate records using mobile devices or field documentation systems. Support other field and utility-related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Previous utility locating, construction, telecommunications, surveying, or field-service experience preferred. Ability to learn and operate electronic utility locating equipment. Basic ability to read maps, diagrams, and technical documentation. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and manage assigned field locations. Reliable, punctual, and safety-conscious. Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Ability to walk, stand, bend, kneel, and perform physical field duties as required. Preferred Skills Experience with underground utility locating equipment. Knowledge of 811 utility-locate procedures and damage-prevention practices. Familiarity with telecommunications, electric, gas, water, or sewer utilities. Experience using GPS, mobile applications, or digital mapping systems. Construction or excavation-site experience. Strong geographic and directional awareness. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced field environment.
