Role Description:
The Field Technician - Level 1 (Fiber Splicer) is a full-time, on-site role based in Buffalo, NY. In this position, the technician supports the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic and telecommunications equipment at customer and network locations. Daily responsibilities may include assisting with cable routing, fusion splicing, terminations, and testing; using basic hand and power tools; and documenting work performed in field reports. The role also involves following safety procedures, responding to service tickets under supervision, and interacting professionally with customers and team members. The Field Technician - Level 1 works closely with senior technicians to learn standards, processes, and best practices in the field. On the job training provided for the right candidates. This is an entry level position with opportunity for rapid career growth.
Starting Wages:
20-26$ per hour Frequent opportunities for Time & a half or Double time.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Learn how to prepare, splice, install and troubleshoot fiber optic cables and their associated systems Maintain all company-issued equipment including splicers, testing equipment, cellphones, tablets, and vehicles General maintenance: cleaning and maintaining mobile splice lab / company vehicle & equipment. Material pick-up from the office. Assist in conducting fusion splicing and testing of fiber optic cables Prepare cabling and assemble equipment to design specifications Clean / test fiber patches. Learn how to inspect cables prior to splicing to validate specifications Responds to tickets in a timely manner Ensures inventory is kept at necessary levels Maintains documentation of work performed Communicates with customers to troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve fiber path issues Production, documentation, job site safety inspections and test result submission, inventory, timecard, general communication with both co-workers and supervisors Work zone set up / tear down.
Qualifications:
Ability to use common hand and power tools safely, follow installation instructions, and perform basic equipment testing and troubleshooting. Strong attention to detail for documenting work, following procedures, and maintaining accurate records of installations and repairs. Effective communication and teamwork skills to collaborate with senior technicians, coordinate with dispatch, and interact with customers on-site. Willingness and physical ability to work in the field, including standing, lifting, climbing ladders, and working in various weather conditions. Basic computer skills for accessing work orders, using mobile applications, and updating job status and reports. Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record. High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or prior experience in telecommunications, construction, or a related field is a plus. Commitment to safety practices and adherence to company and industry standards. OSHA 10 certification is a plus. Physical & mental
Qualifications:
Shift start & end times change daily based on workload Close mental and visual attention to control machines or processes at a rapid pace requiring close coordination and fine adjustment. While performing the duties of this position, the employee is constantly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, perform repetitive hand motion, finger, grasp, handle, feel, push, pull, reach, crouch, kneel, crawl, bend, climb and/or balance. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move over 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that may be encountered while performing the essential functions of this position. The employee is subject to inside and/or outside environmental conditions to include: extreme cold defined as temperatures below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour / extreme heat defined as temperatures above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour / working in high places where possibility of falling exists / oils and / or other chemicals or lubricating fluids / moving mechanical parts or moving vehicles / electrical current or high heat / confined spaces such as shafts, manholes, sewage and water pipelines.
Pay:
$20.00 - $26.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 60.0 per week
