Duties Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables and systems in outdoor environments, adhering to industry standards and safety protocols. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, cranes, and power tools safely to access hard-to-reach areas for cable installation. Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to verify network performance and troubleshoot issues efficiently. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering plans to accurately execute installation and maintenance tasks. Perform telecommunications cable splicing, network cabling, and outside plant operations in accordance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Conduct telecommunications testing on fiber optic networks, including WAN (Wide Area Network), LAN (Local Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony systems. Maintain detailed records of work performed, including schematics, technical troubleshooting support documentation, and inspection logs. Qualifications Proven experience in field service roles involving fiber optic systems installation or telecommunications network maintenance. Strong knowledge of fiber splicing techniques, telecommunications cable installation, and network infrastructure. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, cranes, voltmeters, power tools, and other hand tools safely. Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, schematics, engineering troubleshooting procedures, and computer networking concepts. Outdoor work experience in construction or utility environments is highly preferred. Knowledge of the Low Voltage Electrical Code (NESC), electrical safety practices, and telecommunications outside plant operations. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to perform technical troubleshooting support efficiently. Physical ability to climb poles or ladders regularly while adhering to safety standards; comfortable working at heights. Basic electrical experience including working with low voltage systems like telephony or Ethernet wiring is advantageous.
