A Telecommunications Field Technician telecommunications Field Service Technician installs, repairs and maintains voice, data and video systems for a company's customers at the customer site. Prepares and documents a customer's network prior to implementing telecommunication system. Installs IP, network equipment and facilities. Acts as the first point of issue resolution, responds to field engineering issues and troubleshooting telecommunication problems. May train less experienced field technicians.

This role combines hands-on installation expertise with field leadership to ensure complex telecom systems are installed safely, accurately, and in compliance with industry standards. Success in this position drives customer satisfaction, operational excellence, and network reliability. How you will make an impact: Lead telecom equipment installations and commissioning activities in Central Office and Service Provider environments. Coordinate field crews and subcontractors to deliver projects safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved procedures. Execute circuit modifications, software upgrades, power transitions, and live network activities with precision. Perform quality assurance inspections, technical verifications, and final project walkthroughs. Interpret and resolve issues within job specifications, wiring schematics, equipment layouts, and MOPs. Maintain accurate installation records, as-built documentation, audits, and project reporting. Build strong customer relationships through professional on-site communication and technical leadership.
The must haves:
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Experience:
3+ years of telecom installation experience within Central Office or Service Provider environments. Demonstrated expertise in fiber, copper, coax, DC power systems, BDFB installations, and equipment testing. Strong ability to read and interpret MOPs, technical drawings, wiring schematics, and equipment layouts. Proven leadership experience directing installation teams, mentoring technicians, and conducting QA inspections. Working knowledge of Telcordia
GR-1275, AT&T
TP-76300, and telecom safety standards. Willingness and ability to travel nationwide and work flexible schedules, including nights and weekends.
Nice to haves:
Experience with Ciena 6500, 5400, Waveserver, CESD, and related optical networking platforms. Hands-on experience with Dongah rectifiers, fuse panels, and break interface panels. Familiarity with FAST or FAST Web project documentation systems. Knowledge of My Ciena Portal resources, technical procedures, and installation best practices. Experience performing FRL-based and scope-based fiber testing activities. Advanced troubleshooting experience in live network environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and digital project reporting tools. Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available. Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
