Overview Join our dynamic team as a Drop Bury Technician, where you will play a vital role in the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and telecommunications networks. Duties Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks and trenchers to safely excavate and bury fiber optic cables and telecommunications lines according to project specifications. Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables using industry-standard tools and diagnostic equipment to ensure optimal network performance. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans to accurately execute cable routing and placement. Conduct telecommunications outside plant operations, including cable splicing, testing with specialized testing equipment, and troubleshooting network issues in the field. Use hand tools and power tools to prepare trenches, install conduit systems, and secure cables in outdoor environments while adhering to safety standards such as the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). Perform telecommunications network cable installation for various infrastructure projects including fiber optic networks, LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet systems, and telephony setups. Maintain detailed records of work performed, including cable splicing logs, test results, and compliance documentation for quality assurance. Skills Proven experience in field service operations within telecommunications or related outdoor construction environments. Skilled in heavy equipment operation such as bucket trucks, trenchers, and power tools with a focus on safety and efficiency. Proficient in using diagnostic tools for fiber optic testing and troubleshooting telecommunication systems. Strong understanding of fiber optic splicing techniques and the installation of fiber optic cables within outdoor settings. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting documents accurately. Knowledge of telecommunications testing equipment for verifying network integrity and performance. Familiarity with computer networking concepts including LAN, WAN, Ethernet configurations, and telephony systems. Experience with telecommunications outside plant operations—installing cables outdoors in various weather conditions—and adherence to safety standards such as NESC. Excellent hand tool skills combined with the ability to operate power tools safely on construction sites. Construction experience related to underground cabling projects or outdoor infrastructure development is highly desirable.
