In this role, you will gain hands-on experience in fiber optic systems installation, splicing, and network setup while supporting outdoor plant operations. This position offers a fantastic opportunity to develop technical skills, work with heavy equipment, and contribute to building reliable fiber optic networks that keep communities connected. No prior experience is necessary—just a passion for learning and a drive to succeed in the telecommunications industry! Paid training will be provided to ensure your success from day one. Duties Assist with the installation, splicing, and testing of fiber optic cables in outdoor environments following safety standards and technical specifications. Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, lifts, and other tools required for outdoor telecommunications work. Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to verify network integrity and troubleshoot issues. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides related to fiber optic systems and network infrastructure. Support telecommunications outside plant operations by performing cable pulling, trenching, and cable management activities. Conduct climbing activities safely while adhering to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards during outdoor work. Assist with the installation of telecommunication network cables including LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony systems. Perform routine maintenance on hand tools, power tools, voltmeters, and other technical equipment used in fiber splicing and network installation. Support low voltage wiring projects and assist with interpreting technical drawings for proper cabling procedures. Contribute to engineering troubleshooting efforts by identifying issues within fiber optic networks and supporting technical troubleshooting support efforts. Skills Strong interest in field service work with outdoor work experience preferred. Ability to operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks safely and effectively. Proficiency with diagnostic tools, telecommunications testing equipment, voltmeters, and hand tools. Knowledge of fiber optic cables, telecommunications cable splicing, and network infrastructure installation. Familiarity with telecommunications outside plant operations including trenching, cable pulling, and cable management. Understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards for outdoor electrical safety practices. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering troubleshooting guides related to fiber optic systems. Basic computer networking skills including LAN, WAN, Ethernet configurations, and telephony setups. Climbing ability combined with physical fitness for outdoor work environments involving heights or confined spaces. Technical proficiency in using telecommunication testing equipment for network verification. Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on engineering troubleshooting support for fiber optic networks.
