Summary The Marine Bodywork Technician is responsible for repairing, restoring, and finishing the structural and cosmetic surfaces of boats and other marine vessels. This role involves working with fiberglass, gelcoat, and other marine materials to ensure vessels meet safety standards, performance requirements, and high-quality aesthetic expectations.

Key Responsibilities:

Perform fiberglass and gelcoat repairs, including grinding, laminating, filling, and polishing. Carry out surface preparation, sanding, fairing, and painting for marine finishes. Match and blend colors for gelcoat and paint applications. Maintain and repair moldings, trim, and marine fittings. Operate hand tools, power tools, and specialty marine repair equipment safely. Follow manufacturer specifications, marine safety standards, and shop procedures. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace. Communicate with supervisors and customers on repair status and recommendations.

Qualifications & Skills:

Experience in marine bodywork, fiberglass repair, and gelcoat finishing (minimum 2-3 years preferred). Knowledge of marine materials, adhesives, and coatings. Skilled in the use of grinders, sanders, spray guns, and other repair tools. Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and repair instructions. Strong attention to detail and craftsmanship. Physical ability to lift, bend, kneel, and work in confined spaces or at heights. Commitment to workplace safety and proper PPE usage.

Preferred:

Certification in marine repair, composites, or coatings. Experience with epoxy systems and carbon fiber repairs. Understanding of corrosion prevention and marine coatings.
