Marine Mechanic

Job Description

Position Summary We are seeking an experienced Marine Certified Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate is a skilled mechanic with factory certification (or the ability to obtain it quickly) in at least one of the following major outboard brands: Honda, Evinrude, Suzuki, or Mercury . Certification in multiple brands is highly preferred. You will perform diagnostics, repairs, maintenance, and installations on a variety of outboard motors in a fast-paced, customer-focused shop environment. Key Responsibilities Diagnose and repair outboard engines, lower units, steering systems, fuel systems, electrical components, and related marine equipment. Perform scheduled maintenance, winterization, PDI (Pre-Delivery Inspections), and warranty work. Conduct sea trials and performance testing. Install new outboards, controls, gauges, trolling motors, and accessories. Use manufacturer diagnostic software and tools (e.g., Honda, Suzuki
SDS, BRP
EMM, Mercury tools). Maintain accurate service records, work orders, and parts documentation using ShopMonkey or similar systems. Provide excellent customer service, including explaining repairs and recommending preventive maintenance. Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe; follow all safety protocols. Stay current with manufacturer training, certifications, and technical bulletins.
Requirements Certification:
Must be factory-trained and certified (or able to become certified within 90 days) in at least one of the following: Honda, Evinrude/BRP, Suzuki, or Mercury outboards. Multiple certifications strongly preferred. Minimum 2-5 years of professional experience as a marine/outboard technician. Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills across mechanical, electrical, and fuel systems. Ability to read and interpret service manuals, wiring diagrams, and technical bulletins. Valid driver's license with a clean driving record (boat handling experience a plus). Own basic hand tools and specialty marine tools (shop will provide major equipment and diagnostic tools). Ability to lift 50+ lbs, work in various weather conditions, and handle boats on lifts/trailers. Reliable, detail-oriented, and able to work independently or as part of a team. Florida boating safety knowledge and passion for the marine industry. Preferred Qualifications Experience with multiple brands (Honda BF series, Suzuki, Mercury Verado, Evinrude E-TEC, etc.). Prior dealership or authorized service center experience. Additional certifications (e.g., ABYC, Mercury Optimax/Verado, etc.). Familiarity with trailers, rigging, and fiberglass/aluminum hull repairs. Computer skills for diagnostics and shop management software.
