Job Description

Affordable Boating of North Florida is seeking an experienced Marine Fiberglass, Gel Coat & Paint Technician to join our team. This position will focus on fiberglass and gel coat repair, cosmetic restoration, paint work, and refinishing boats and outboard engine cowlings being prepared for sale. We are looking for a skilled technician with at least 3 years of professional experience in fiberglass and gel coat repair, marine refinishing, automotive body and paint, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate can independently complete repairs from initial preparation through final finish and takes pride in producing professional, retail-ready results. Responsibilities Perform fiberglass repairs on hulls, decks, consoles, and other boat components Perform gel coat repairs, including preparation, application, color matching, sanding, and finishing Repair cracks, chips, gouges, scratches, and other fiberglass and cosmetic damage Complete fiberglass layup and structural repairs as needed Sand, buff, compound, and polish fiberglass and gel coat surfaces Prepare surfaces for paint, including sanding, filling, priming, masking, and cleaning Paint and refinish outboard engine cowlings and other marine components Restore cowlings with scratches, chips, fading, and damaged finishes to a professional appearance Perform paint and gel coat color matching Apply paint and clear coat and complete final sanding, polishing, and finishing Assist with bottom preparation and bottom painting when needed Inspect completed work to ensure repairs and finishes meet quality standards Identify additional fiberglass, gel coat, paint, or cosmetic issues during the repair process Maintain spray equipment, tools, materials, and a clean and organized work area Coordinate with the Fleet Rehab Manager and other technicians to keep boats moving efficiently through the preparation and sales process Required Experience & Qualifications Minimum 3 years of professional experience in fiberglass repair, gel coat repair, marine refinishing, automotive body and paint, or a comparable field Demonstrated experience performing fiberglass and/or gel coat repairs Professional painting and refinishing experience Experience with surface preparation, filling, sanding, priming, masking, paint application, and clear coat Ability to complete repairs through final sanding, buffing, polishing, and finishing Experience using spray guns and related paint equipment Ability to use grinders, sanders, buffers, polishers, and other power and hand tools Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce high-quality finished work Ability to work independently and manage assigned repair projects from start to finish Reliable, organized, and able to work effectively as part of a team Marine experience is preferred but not required. Candidates with strong automotive collision, body shop, fiberglass, or professional paint and refinishing backgrounds are encouraged to apply. Work Environment This is a hands-on position in a marine repair and boat preparation facility. The technician will regularly work around boats, outboard engines, power tools, fiberglass dust, gel coat, paints, primers, clear coats, solvents, and other repair materials. Proper safety procedures and personal protective equipment are required. Our team handles a steady volume of boats requiring fiberglass, gel coat, paint, cosmetic restoration, and finishing work. We are looking for an experienced technician who takes pride in their craftsmanship and can help return boats and engine components to a clean, professional, retail-ready condition.
