Job Description
Marine Service Technician Job Overview Shelton Outdoor Power is seeking a motivated, dependable, and skilled Marine Service Technician to join our Service Department. In this role, you will be responsible for diagnosing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting marine engines, watercraft, and related marine systems. The Marine Service Technician will use mechanical knowledge, diagnostic equipment, technical manuals, and manufacturer specifications to identify and repair mechanical and electrical issues. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and a commitment to quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. Duties and Responsibilities Perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on marine engines, propulsion systems, watercraft, and related equipment. Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and engine-related issues using appropriate diagnostic equipment and tools. Troubleshoot marine electrical systems, wiring, and electrical components using multimeters, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools. Perform routine maintenance and scheduled service according to manufacturer specifications and company procedures. Repair and replace mechanical components, engine parts, electrical components, and other marine systems as needed. Use hand tools, power tools, precision measuring instruments, diagnostic equipment, and specialized service tools safely and effectively. Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, schematics, and manufacturer service information. Accurately diagnose equipment concerns and determine the repairs or parts needed. Complete repairs efficiently while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail. Accurately document diagnostic findings, repairs performed, parts used, and recommended services. Inspect completed repairs to ensure the equipment is operating properly and safely before being returned to the customer. Identify additional maintenance or repair needs and communicate those recommendations through the appropriate service process. Assist with the installation, removal, rigging, and handling of marine engines, components, and equipment as needed. Safely lift, move, and handle heavy equipment, parts, and components. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area. Properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow all Shelton Outdoor Power safety policies and procedures. Work closely with the Service Manager, Service Advisors, Parts Department, and other team members to ensure efficient workflow and excellent customer service. Participate in manufacturer training and continuing education as required. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications and Experience Previous experience as a Marine Service Technician, Marine Mechanic, Automotive Technician, Diesel Technician, or related mechanical service professional is preferred. Strong mechanical knowledge and experience diagnosing and repairing engines, mechanical systems, and related equipment. Knowledge of marine engines, propulsion systems, and marine equipment is preferred. Experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical systems and electrical components. Proficiency with diagnostic equipment, multimeters, ohmmeters, hand tools, power tools, and specialized service equipment. Ability to read and follow manufacturer service manuals, technical information, wiring diagrams, schematics, and repair procedures. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to perform repairs accurately and efficiently while maintaining attention to detail. Ability to safely lift, move, and handle heavy equipment, parts, and components. Ability to work independently while also functioning effectively as part of a team. Strong communication skills and the ability to clearly communicate equipment concerns and repair needs. Manufacturer certifications or previous marine dealership experience are a plus but not required. Willingness to participate in ongoing training and professional development. Pay:
