POSITION SUMMARY

We are looking for an experienced Marine Construction Overall Mechanic to join our marine construction team. This is a hands-on position working primarily around barges, marine construction equipment, heavy equipment, pile-driving equipment, diesel engines, hydraulics, generators, pumps, winches, and other specialized marine equipment. The ideal candidate will have an extensive background working in marine environments and heavy equipment, with strong diesel mechanic skills and the ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment independently. This is not a typical boat mechanic position. We are looking for an experienced mechanic who understands the demands of marine construction and can keep equipment running in challenging field conditions.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain, troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair marine construction equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance and inspections on company equipment.
• Diagnose and repair diesel engines and heavy equipment.
• Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic systems, hydraulic pumps, motors, cylinders, valves, hoses, and controls.
• Troubleshoot electrical systems, starters, alternators, batteries, wiring, and controls.
• Maintain and repair generators, pumps, compressors, welders, winches, and other support equipment.
• Maintain and repair equipment used for pile driving and pile installation.
• Work on pile-driving hammers, leads, hydraulic power units, winches, vibratory equipment, and related machinery.
• Maintain and repair barge-mounted equipment and machinery.
• Perform field repairs and emergency repairs when equipment breaks down on a jobsite.
• Assist construction crews with equipment setup, troubleshooting, and mechanical problems.
• Perform welding, cutting, fabrication, and equipment modifications when necessary.
• Maintain accurate records of equipment maintenance and repairs.
• Maintain an organized inventory of parts, filters, hoses, fittings, fluids, and other commonly needed repair items.
• Identify potential equipment failures before they become major problems.
• Communicate equipment condition, repair requirements, and parts needs to management.

MARINE & FIELD WORK

This position will require working directly on barges and marine construction projects.

The mechanic must be comfortable:

• Working on barges and vessels.
• Working around cranes and heavy equipment.
• Working around pile-driving operations.
• Working around water and changing weather conditions.
• Boarding and working from barges in various weather conditions.
• Working in confined or difficult-to-access areas.
• Working outdoors year-round.
• Traveling to projects outside the immediate Seattle area.
• Working overnight and extended-duration jobs away from home when required.
• Responding to equipment breakdowns in the field.
• Working independently when a superintendent or manager is not immediately available.

WORK SCHEDULE & TRAVEL

Marine construction schedules can vary depending on project requirements, weather, tides, equipment needs, and location.

The position may require:

• Long workdays.
• Overtime.
• Weekend work.
• Overnight work.
• Extended projects away from home.
• Travel throughout Western Washington and the Pacific Northwest.
• Emergency or after-hours equipment repairs when required.

Employees will be provided applicable travel, lodging, and other project-related compensation in accordance with company policy.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Extensive experience as a diesel, heavy equipment, marine, or industrial mechanic.
• Significant experience working in marine or waterfront environments.
• Strong diesel engine troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Strong hydraulic troubleshooting and repair skills.
• Heavy equipment experience.
• Ability to diagnose mechanical problems and determine the appropriate repair.
• Ability to work independently and make sound mechanical decisions.
• Ability to work safely around barges, cranes, pile-driving equipment, and heavy construction equipment.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel and work overnight away from home when required.
• Ability to work overtime and extended hours when project conditions require it. Strongly Preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This is a physically demanding field position. The employee must be able to:

• Work from barges and vessels.
• Climb ladders and access equipment.
• Work in awkward positions.
• Lift and carry tools and mechanical components.
• Bend, kneel, crawl, and work in confined areas.
• Work outside in rain, wind, cold, heat, and other weather conditions.
• Work around heavy equipment, machinery, noise, and marine construction operations. SAFETY Safety is a critical part of this position. The Marine Construction Overall Mechanic is expected to:
• Follow all company safety procedures.
• Properly lock out and tag out equipment when required.
• Inspect equipment before returning it to service.
• Report unsafe equipment or conditions immediately.
• Use proper PPE and fall protection.
• Follow applicable OSHA/WISHA and marine construction safety requirements.
• Never place equipment back into service when it is unsafe to operate.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

We are looking for someone who is a true all-around mechanic. The ideal candidate doesn't need to be told exactly what is wrong with a piece of equipment. They can walk up to a machine, troubleshoot the problem, determine what is needed, and get it repaired. You should be comfortable getting dirty, working outside, working on a barge, and dealing with equipment that doesn't always fail conveniently.

You should be someone who:

• Can fabricate or weld when necessary.
