Machine Tool Research is looking for a someone with machine-tool experience preferred, who wants to take their mechanical and technical skills into the field and become an expert in leveling, aligning, and verifying the accuracy of large CNC machine tools after installation, rebuild, or retrofit. Due to the nature of our work with government-regulated technologies, this position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. government security clearance. We're looking for someone who already has hands-on experience working with or around lathes, mills, CNC machines, or other machine tools, is comfortable using computers and learning new technology, and is ready to take those skills to the next level. Every Project is Different - Work on unique machine installations, rebuilds, retrofits, and service projects throughout the U.S. What You'll Do Perform precision leveling, alignment, and geometric verification of large CNC machine tools. Use FARO Laser Trackers, Renishaw Laser Interferometers, Keyence optical measurement systems, and other advanced tools to evaluate machine geometry and performance. Collect and analyze measurement data to identify inaccuracies and determine the adjustments needed to bring machines into specification. Work alongside mechanical technicians, engineers, and customer personnel to make or support mechanical adjustments and verify final machine accuracy. Use specialized software to analyze results and prepare professional reports documenting machine condition and results. Maintain, calibrate, and care for specialized metrology equipment. Continue developing your technical expertise through structured training and hands-on field experience. Represent MTR professionally while working at customer facilities. The Road Warrior Part This role includes 25% travel throughout the U.S., often during machine installation, startup, and final alignment. What You Bring Hands-on experience working with or around lathes, mills, CNC machines, or other machine tools . Strong mechanical aptitude and a genuine desire to learn. Comfort working with computers, technical software, and digital equipment, with the ability to learn new technology and software systems. Ability to think mechanically, troubleshoot problems, and work through challenges methodically. Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. Strong communication skills and professionalism when working directly with customers. Ability and willingness to travel, including overnight travel. Valid driver's license.
