INVITES APPLICATIONS FOR FIELD SERVICES WORKER I - STREETS SALARY
$3,334 - $4,068/month
DEFINITION
Under close supervision, performs a variety of entry-level manual labor and maintenance work in support of street maintenance operations, including assistance with roadway repairs, installation of street signs, pavement markings, and traffic control setup. Employees in this classification perform routine tasks while learning the skills and procedures necessary for advancement within the Field Services Worker Streets series.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This is the entry-level classification in the Field Services Worker Streets series. Employees work under direct supervision and perform routine maintenance duties while receiving on-the-job training in street maintenance, traffic control procedures, installation of traffic control devices, and operation of maintenance equipment.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
1. Assist with asphalt patching, pothole repair, crack sealing, and roadway surface maintenance 2. Assist crews with roadway preparation for maintenance and paving operations. 3. Assist with installation, repair, and replacement of street name signs, regulatory signs, and warning signs. 4. Assist with inspections of traffic signs and report damaged or missing signs. 5. Assist with installation and maintenance of pavement markings, including crosswalks, stop bars, lane markings, and curb painting. 6. Help prepare pavement surfaces and assist in the operation of striping equipment. 7. Assist with set up and maintain temporary traffic control and street closures for maintenance operations, special events, and construction projects. 8. Place cones, barricades, warning signs, and other traffic control devices under supervision. 9. Follow established traffic control safety procedures and work zone practices. 10. Operate basic hand tools and small equipment used in street maintenance. 11. Assist with equipment setup, cleaning, and basic maintenance. 12. Help maintain work areas, tools, and equipment in safe operating condition. 13. Interact with residents and businesses in a courteous manner during maintenance operations. 14. Assist in responding to routine service requests related to street maintenance.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education and/or
Experience:
One year of experience in unskilled maintenance or construction work any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.
Knowledge of:
Safe use of hand tools and maintenance equipment; Basic street maintenance practices; General understanding of traffic control devices such as signs and pavement markings; Basic awareness of traffic control safety practices.
Ability to:
Perform heavy manual labor in an outdoor work environment; Follow instructions and safety procedures; Work cooperatively with supervisors and coworkers; Learn installation procedures for street signs and pavement markings; Assist in establishing safe work zones for street maintenance activities.
REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid California Driver's License Class
C. SELECTION PROCESS
Screening will consist of a competitive assessment of relevant education, certification, license, training and work experience to be followed by an interview before an Oral Board to determine the most qualified candidates. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement to an interview and the decision of the screening committee is final. Those candidates who are determined eligible for appointment to the position will be placed on the City's Certified Eligibility List. Applicants will receive electronic written notification regarding the results of all phases of the recruitment process up to the establishment of the Eligibility List, if applicable.
