This is responsible supervisory work in directing and coordinating the management, operation, construction, repair and maintenance of streets and road, storm drain system and side walks. Work is generally performed under limited supervision and is reviewed in progress or upon completion for desired results and conformance with established standards. Work is performed under the direction of the Supervisor of Street/Facility/Fleet Maintenance.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Schedules, assigns, inspects, and assists work crews daily to handle work orders for street, road, storm drain and sidewalk construction, installation, repair, maintenance and clean up. Ensures necessary equipment and materials are available for projects. Performs routine inspection of transportation routes to ensure good condition. Directs city mosquito control program. Responsible for maintenance and cleanup of city owned cemeteries. Enforce all safety policies and procedures. Set up barricades to FDOT standards and make work zones safe. Other related duties as assigned.
Education, Training and Experience:
Graduation form a standard high school or GED; four (4) years' experience in street maintenance, construction and/or related field preferred; two (2) years in supervisory/foreman capacity; or a combination of training and experience. Complete intermediate maintenance of traffic course (MOT) within six months.
Special Requirements:
Valid Florida class B commercial driver license.
Florida Public Health Pest Control License Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of modern principles, practices and techniques for the construction or installation, repair and maintenance of streets, roads, storm drains and sidewalks. Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Demonstrates skills in the use of required tools and equipment. Ability to issue oral and written instructions, plan, schedule and supervise personnel and equipment in a manner conductive to full performance and high employee morale; ability to relate well with the public; ability to keep records, prepare reports; ability to work out of doors under adverse weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 101 or more pounds. Frequent pushing & pulling of up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 100 lbs. Frequent bending, squatting and kneeling, frequent twisting, reaching above shoulders, reaching outward, handling, fingering, standing, shoveling, & walking. Occasionally climbing, crawling and sitting. Frequent driving (automatic or manual shift). Moderate to heavy manual labor. Outside year round in all weather conditions. Very physical and dirty. Acceptable vision (with or without correction). Acceptable hearing (with or without correction).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed primarily outside in all weather conditions with a small percentage of time in an office setting.
HOURS WORKED
Monday through Friday 7:00 am to 3:30 pm unless duties require employee to report early or stay late to complete assigned tasks. Applicant will be subject to a drug screening for presence or absence of illegal drugs and background check. It is a condition of employment for employee to refrain from reporting to work or working with the presence of illegal drugs or alcohol in his or her body, and, if an injured employee refuses to submit to a test for drugs or alcohol, the employee forfeits eligibility for medical and indemnity benefits. Foreman is subject to job applicant, random, reasonable suspicion, work related post accident, and fitness for duty testing.
