Job Summary We are seeking a dedicated Traffic Control Flagger to join our civil infrastructure team. In this role, you will be responsible for directing vehicular and pedestrian traffic safely around construction zones and roadway work sites. Your primary focus will be to ensure the safety of workers, motorists, and pedestrians while maintaining smooth traffic flow during various construction activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, a keen eye for safety, and experience working in outdoor construction environments. Responsibilities Set up and operate traffic control devices in accordance with approved plans and federal safety regulations, including FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) standards. Direct traffic using hand signals, signs, and flagging equipment to ensure safe passage through construction zones. Maintain clear communication with construction crews, motorists, and pedestrians to prevent accidents and confusion. Monitor work zones continuously for hazards or unsafe conditions and take immediate corrective actions. Assist in setting up barricades, cones, warning signs, and other temporary traffic control measures. Follow all safety protocols rigorously to prevent accidents or injuries on site. Report any incidents or unsafe conditions promptly to supervisors and document occurrences as required. Support heavy equipment operation by coordinating traffic flow around machinery such as dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, and dump trucks. Participate in ongoing safety training sessions to stay current with industry standards and regulations. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations related to roadway construction and traffic control. Experience Prior experience working in traffic control or flagging within road construction or civil infrastructure projects. Knowledge of heavy equipment operation including dozers, loaders, backhoes, graders, front loader trucks, dump trucks, and power tools such as welding equipment. Familiarity with roadway construction processes such as paving and highway maintenance. Understanding of FMCSA regulations governing commercial truck driving and heavy equipment operation. Mechanical knowledge related to construction machinery like Caterpillar equipment. Experience handling manual tools and performing heavy lifting safely in outdoor environments. Proven ability to work effectively on construction sites involving roadwork or highway projects. Strong commitment to safety protocol adherence in outdoor work settings. Ability to communicate clearly using hand signals and signage in noisy or busy environments. Physical stamina for manual handling tasks and outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
