Working from an elevated control tower, you monitor range activity, enforce safety limits, and communicate directly with the units training on the range and with Range Control. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role that's a great entry point into range operations, range safety, and defense-contracting career paths - many Tower Operators move into range maintenance, scheduling, or safety roles over time. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent. Ability to obtain range/tower operator certification (training provided by employer - no prior certification required to apply). Comfortable working outdoors, at elevation, and in varied weather conditions. Clear verbal communication skills and comfort using two-way radios. Ability to pass a standard background check and obtain installation access. Valid driver's license preferred (for travel between range sites). No prior military or defense-contracting experience required - on-the-job training provided. Key Responsibilities Monitor live-fire range activity from an observation tower and communicate range status to Range Control via radio. Enforce limits of fire and range safety procedures; verify no personnel are downrange before a range goes "hot." Post and remove range warning flags (day) and warning lights (night) to indicate range status. Log range activity, unusual occurrences, and safety incidents on standard range logs. Conduct routine physical security checks of the tower and surrounding area on a recurring schedule. Coordinate with the training unit on-site regarding scenario timing and safety briefings. Report equipment or target malfunctions to maintenance/range operations staff.
