Buffalo Utilities Position Summary Buffalo Utilities is seeking a motivated Journeyman Lineman or Late-Step Apprentice Lineman to join our growing team. This position is responsible for assisting in and performing the construction, rebuilding, upgrading, and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems for rural electric cooperatives and utility customers throughout Colorado. The successful candidate will work as part of a crew under the direction of a Foreman and will be expected to perform quality work safely, efficiently, and professionally while contributing to a positive team environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Construct, rebuild, maintain, and upgrade overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Frame poles, set poles, install anchors, guying, conductors, transformers, and related distribution equipment. Operate and work from bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other line construction equipment. Assist with loading, unloading, and staging materials required for construction projects. Perform work in accordance with company safety policies, OSHA regulations, and customer specifications. Participate in daily job briefings and safety meetings. Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a clean and safe operating condition. Read and interpret staking sheets, construction drawings, and utility maps as needed. Communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors. Represent Buffalo Utilities professionally with customers, cooperative personnel, landowners, and the public. Assist in training and mentoring less experienced crew members when appropriate.
Qualifications Journeyman Lineman:
Completion of a recognized Lineman Apprenticeship Program. Journeyman Lineman certification. Experience in overhead and underground distribution line construction. Valid driver's license required. CDL required or ability to obtain one.
Late-Step Apprentice Lineman:
Current enrollment in a recognized Lineman Apprenticeship Program. Completion of advanced apprenticeship requirements and demonstrated ability to work safely with limited supervision. Distribution construction experience required. Valid driver's license required. CDL required or ability to obtain one. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems. Ability to safely perform line construction work at heights and in varying weather conditions. Strong work ethic and commitment to safety. Ability to work effectively as part of a crew. Willingness to learn, develop skills, and accept coaching. Ability to read and interpret utility construction prints and staking sheets. Strong communication and problem-solving skills. Physical Requirements Ability to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions. Ability to climb poles and work from aerial devices. Ability to lift and carry materials and equipment weighing up to 75 pounds. Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday. Work Schedule and Travel This position follows a 7 days on / 7 days off hitch schedule. Scheduled work hitches begin on Wednesday and conclude on the following Tuesday. Employees work every other week, providing a full week off between hitches. Daily work hours may vary based on project requirements and weather conditions. Overtime may be required during scheduled work hitches to meet project deadlines. Travel to project locations is required. Work Location Work is performed at project sites throughout Colorado. Travel within Colorado is required based on project assignments. Company-provided housing is available when overnight accommodations are needed on a project by project basis. Tools and Equipment Employees are expected to provide and maintain their own basic personal hand tools. Buffalo Utilities provides all major line construction equipment, vehicles, specialty tools, safety equipment, and materials required for project work. Employees are responsible for the proper use and care of company-owned equipment and property.
Compensation Journeyman Lineman:
$46.00 per hour.
Late-Step Apprentice Lineman:
$40.00 to $42.00 per hour, depending on experience, apprenticeship progression, qualifications, and demonstrated skill level. Consistent schedule with a 7 days on / 7 days off rotation.
