In this vital role, you will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of aerial fiber optic and copper cable networks. Your hands-on expertise will help ensure reliable telecommunications services for customers while adhering to safety standards and operational procedures. This position offers an exciting opportunity to develop technical skills in outdoor work environments, heavy equipment operation, and telecommunications infrastructure. Responsibilities Assist with the installation, splicing, and maintenance of fiber optic cables and telecommunications network cables in outdoor aerial environments. Operate bucket trucks, power tools, and other heavy equipment safely to access elevated work areas. Use diagnostic tools and testing equipment to troubleshoot network issues and support engineering troubleshooting efforts. Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and construction plans to facilitate accurate cable routing and installation. Support telecommunications outside plant operations by performing cable splicing, cabling, and network infrastructure setup. Maintain safety protocols in accordance with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) during all outdoor work activities. Collaborate with team members on low voltage wiring, Ethernet cabling, LAN/WAN configurations, and telephony systems. Conduct inspections of aerial lines for damage or wear, ensuring compliance with safety standards. Assist in interpreting technical schematics and network diagrams to support fiber splicing and fiber optic network deployment. Support the use of telecommunication testing equipment for quality assurance and troubleshooting purposes. Qualifications Prior experience in field service or outdoor construction work involving telecommunications or heavy equipment operation preferred. Ability to operate bucket trucks, power tools, hand tools, and other construction equipment safely and effectively. Knowledge of fiber optic cables, fiber splicing techniques, and telecommunications cable installation processes. Familiarity with the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and safety procedures for outdoor utility work. Strong technical proficiency with diagnostic tools, schematics interpretation, computer networking concepts including Ethernet, LAN/WAN systems, and telephony infrastructure. Experience working with telecommunication testing equipment and troubleshooting fiber optic or copper networks. Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering plans accurately. Climbing skills for aerial line work combined with outdoor work experience in various weather conditions. Construction experience related to telecommunications or similar infrastructure projects is highly desirable. Excellent communication skills to support technical troubleshooting efforts and collaborate effectively within a team.
