Full-Time Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and motivated Overhead Crane Mechanical Traveling Technician to join our field service team. This position involves traveling to customer sites to inspect, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain overhead cranes, hoists, and related material handling equipment. The technician will primarily support customers in steel mills, manufacturing facilities, processing plants, and other heavy industrial environments . The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical aptitude, experience with industrial equipment, working knowledge of industrial hydraulic systems, and basic electrical troubleshooting skills. This role requires extensive travel and the ability to work safely in demanding industrial settings. Key Responsibilities Perform inspections, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling equipment. Service equipment located in steel mills, foundries, fabrication shops, manufacturing plants, and other heavy industrial facilities. Diagnose and repair mechanical components including gearboxes, bearings, wire ropes, brakes, couplings, wheels, and drive systems. Troubleshoot and repair industrial hydraulic systems including cylinders, pumps, valves, hoses, and related components. Perform basic electrical troubleshooting on motors, controls, limit switches, relays, and associated equipment. Conduct preventative maintenance and safety inspections in accordance with company and industry standards. Complete service reports, inspection documentation, and repair recommendations. Work closely with customers to identify equipment issues and provide solutions. Follow all safety policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and site-specific requirements. Assist with crane installations, modernization projects, and emergency breakdown service calls as needed. Required Qualifications Minimum 3 years of experience in overhead crane service, industrial maintenance, millwright work, or related heavy industrial field. Strong mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills. Knowledge of overhead cranes, hoists, and material handling systems. Experience working with industrial hydraulic systems. Basic electrical knowledge, including the ability to use a multimeter and troubleshoot low-voltage control circuits. Ability to read mechanical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical documentation. Ability to work at heights and in challenging industrial environments. Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record. Ability and willingness to travel extensively. Preferred Qualifications Experience servicing equipment in steel mills or heavy manufacturing environments. Knowledge of AC/DC motors, VFDs, and crane control systems. Welding and fabrication experience. OSHA, MSHA, or other relevant safety certifications. NCCCO, CMCO, or crane inspection certifications are a plus. Physical Requirements Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly. Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work from elevated platforms. Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and conditions. Ability to stand, kneel, bend, and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods.
