Powerline Journeyman Lineman Position Summary The Journeyman Lineman is responsible for the construction, maintenance, repair, and operation of overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission systems, including energized (hot) and de-energized lines, in accordance with Force Electrical Services safety standards, NESC requirements, and applicable regulatory codes. This is a skilled, safety-critical field position requiring the ability to work independently and as part of a crew, often under adverse weather conditions, tight schedules, and emergency response circumstances, to safely deliver reliable electrical service for utility customers. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Construct, install, maintain, repair, and troubleshoot overhead and underground electric distribution and transmission lines, poles, transformers, conductors, and associated equipment. Perform live-line (hot) work using approved rubber gloving, hot stick, and bare-hand techniques as qualified, as well as de-energized work with proper lockout/tagout and grounding procedures. Climb wood, steel, and concrete poles and structures, and operate bucket trucks, digger derricks, and other aerial equipment to access and work on energized and de-energized lines. Frame and set poles, install crossarms, insulators, transformers, switches, reclosers, and other line hardware in accordance with construction specifications and standards. Splice, terminate, and repair underground cable and associated equipment, including pad-mounted transformers, switchgear, and URD systems. Respond to outages and emergency callouts, including storm restoration work, to diagnose problems and restore power safely and efficiently, which may require extended hours, overnight travel, and mutual assistance deployments. Operate and inspect line trucks, digger derricks, bucket trucks, cable pullers, tensioners, and other specialized utility equipment; perform routine equipment checks and report maintenance needs. Read and interpret system maps, construction prints, sag and tension charts, and work orders to complete assigned tasks accurately. Conduct pole inspections, line patrols, and system maintenance to identify and correct hazards, defects, or code violations. Follow all Force Electrical Services safety policies, OSHA Subpart V, and NESC requirements, including proper use of PPE, rubber goods, grounding equipment, and fall protection at all times. Participate in tailboard/job briefings prior to each task, identifying hazards and confirming safe work procedures with the crew. Train, mentor, and provide directions to apprentice linemen and groundmen as assigned. Accurately complete required documentation, including timesheets, job records, material usage, and safety forms. Maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) and safely operate company vehicles and equipment in compliance with DOT regulations. Be available for on-call rotation and respond promptly to after-hours and emergency callouts as required. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications High school diploma or GED equivalent required. Successful completion of a recognized lineman apprenticeship program (typically 4 years / minimum 7,000-8,000 hours of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction), or equivalent combination of training and experience recognized as journeyman-level proficiency. Minimum of four (4) years of progressive electrical line construction and maintenance experience, with demonstrated journeyman-level competency in both overhead and underground distribution work. Demonstrated proficiency in energized (hot) line work techniques, including rubber gloving and/or hot stick methods, as applicable to assigned work. Working knowledge of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), OSHA 1910.269 and Subpart V requirements, and utility industry safety standards. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class A preferred; must meet and maintain DOT medical certification requirements. Ability to safely climb poles and structures and work at heights using proper fall protection and climbing equipment. CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within a specified period of hire. Strong understanding of electrical theory, distribution system components, and line construction standards. Ability to work in a team environment, communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors, and exercise sound judgment in hazardous, high-consequence situations. Willingness to work variable schedules, extended hours, and travel for storm restoration and mutual assistance work with minimal notice.

Pay:

$45.00 - $51.00 per hour Expected hours: 40.0 - 50.0 per week
