The purpose of the Maintenance General Helper is to provide hands-on maintenance, cleaning, and facility support in AES's plastic injection molding facility. This role supports equipment uptime, plant cleanliness, safe working conditions, and the production of quality products through timely assistance with preventative maintenance, general repairs, and daily plant support activities.
Job Summary:
The Maintenance General Helper assists the Maintenance team with preventative maintenance, general plant maintenance, equipment cleaning, lubrication, housekeeping, and basic facility repair activities. This includes supporting the cleaning and lubrication of injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment, maintaining plant floor areas, assisting with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, and completing required documentation as directed. The role requires a mechanically inclined individual who is dependable, safety-focused, willing to learn, and comfortable working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The Maintenance General Helper must be able to follow direction, work safely around equipment, maintain good housekeeping practices, and promptly report equipment concerns, unsafe conditions, or unusual issues to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Job Responsibilities:
Assist Maintenance Technicians with maintenance tasks, repairs, cleaning, inspections, and general support activities as directed. Conduct basic preventative maintenance activities and record information as required, including cleaning and lubricating injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment according to manufacturer specifications and plant procedures. Clean and maintain designated facility areas, including sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning vents, removing debris, and cleaning up spills using proper equipment and procedures. Assist with scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on production equipment, auxiliary equipment, and facility systems as required. Perform general plant maintenance, including checking and replacing faulty lighting, basic plumbing support, minor repairs, painting, cleaning, and assembly of miscellaneous items or equipment. Support equipment readiness by helping maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas around machines, maintenance areas, aisles, and facility spaces. Use hand tools, power tools, ladders, lifts, and other maintenance equipment safely and appropriately. Assist with lubrication activities and become familiar with different types of oils, greases, and basic lubrication requirements. Work safely at heights, in tight spaces, and around manufacturing equipment when properly trained and authorized. Promptly report equipment issues, unsafe conditions, leaks, spills, unusual noises, damage, or other concerns to the Maintenance Supervisor or appropriate leadership. Maintain accurate records, logs, checklists, or other documentation as required by company policy, maintenance procedures, quality systems, and safety requirements. Support good housekeeping, 5S, and plant organization standards throughout the facility. Follow all company safety rules, PPE requirements, lockout/tagout requirements when applicable, and applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations, including MIOSHA requirements. Support compliance with current quality, environmental, and manufacturing procedures. Assist other departments when required to support production, maintenance, quality, shipping, receiving, or general plant needs. Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Mechanically inclined with a strong willingness to learn. Experience using hand tools and power tools is preferred. Prior experience in a manufacturing, maintenance, injection molding, automotive, or industrial environment is an asset. Basic knowledge of preventative maintenance, lubrication, machine cleaning, hydraulics, pneumatics, welding, or machine shop practices is an asset. Forklift license and overhead crane certification are assets, or willingness to obtain certification if required. Able to take direction, follow instructions, and complete assigned tasks safely and accurately. Self-motivated, dependable, punctual, and able to work with minimal supervision once trained. Strong attention to detail and pride in quality workmanship. Good communication skills and ability to work respectfully in a team-oriented environment. Able to read, write, and communicate in English. Basic computer, calculator, and recordkeeping skills are preferred. Must maintain a safe, clean, and organized work area. Must follow company policies, safety rules, quality procedures, and good manufacturing practices. Physical Requirements /
Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in a manufacturing plant environment. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, climb, kneel, and work around production equipment. Must be able to lift up to 60 lbs. waist high when required. Must be comfortable working at heights and in tight spaces when properly trained and authorized. May be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, noise, oils, grease, dust, heat, and typical manufacturing conditions. May be required to work outside environment. Must wear required PPE and follow all plant safety requirements. Must be available to work overtime, weekends, plant shutdowns or off-shift hours based on production and maintenance needs.
