Master Craftsman — Cabinetry & Furniture Aberdeen Studio | Full-Time About the Shop Aberdeen Studio is a custom cabinetry and furniture shop dedicated to fine woodworking, precise joinery, and lasting craftsmanship. We're looking for a Master Craftsman to lead high-level fabrication and installation work while helping shape the next generation of talent in our shop. Position Summary The Master Craftsman is the shop's senior hands-on authority on cabinetry and furniture construction, responsible for producing and installing work of the highest quality while mentoring less experienced craftsmen. This role combines deep technical mastery with a genuine investment in developing the people around them. Key Responsibilities Design, build, and install custom cabinetry and furniture pieces to exacting standards of fit, finish, and durability. Read and interpret shop drawings, architectural plans, and client specifications, flagging issues or improvements before fabrication begins. Select and work with a range of materials (hardwoods, veneers, sheet goods, hardware) and apply advanced joinery techniques appropriate to each piece. Operate and maintain shop machinery and hand tools safely and to a high standard of precision. Lead or oversee on-site installations, including scribing, leveling, and finish work in real-world (non-square) conditions. Troubleshoot construction and installation problems and develop practical, high-quality solutions. Review work in progress and completed pieces for quality control, catching issues before they reach the client. Mentor and train less experienced craftsmen on techniques, tool use, shop practices, and quality standards — through direct instruction, hands-on demonstration, and day-to-day guidance on the shop floor. Foster a culture of craftsmanship, safety, and continuous improvement among the team. Contribute to process and technique improvements that raise the overall skill level and efficiency of the shop. Qualifications 15+ years of hands-on experience in cabinetry and/or furniture construction, including custom or high-end work. Extensive, demonstrated knowledge of cabinetry construction methods and installation techniques, including complex joinery, custom fitting, and finish carpentry. Proficiency with a full range of shop machinery (table saws, panel saws, edgebanders, CNC equipment a plus) and precision hand tools. Strong blueprint- and shop-drawing-reading skills. Proven ability to teach, coach, or mentor other craftsmen — patient, clear, and generous with knowledge. A track record of consistent, high-quality work under real production deadlines. Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment when conditions don't match the plans. Commitment to shop safety practices and standards. Bonus Qualifications Experience with high-end finishing techniques (hand-rubbed oils, conversion varnish, lacquer, French polish, custom stains and glazes, or similar fine-finish work).
