Position Overview The Silver Room Technician monitors, operates, and maintains the automated conveyor systems, chemical spray booths, and curing ovens used in the mirror silvering process. This role requires a blend of chemical precision, mechanical aptitude, and strict attention to quality control to produce flawless, reflective glass products. [1, 2, 3, 4] Key Responsibilities 1.
Equipment Operation & Line Monitoring Conveyor Control:
Set up, adjust, and operate automated Xinology or similar mirror silvering lines and conveyor systems. [1, 2]
Process Regulation:
Monitor and adjust machine dials, valves, and computerized control panels to regulate conveyor speed, fluid pressure, temperature, and spray feed rates. [1, 2]
Washing Systems:
Overlook automated glass washing equipment utilizing deionized water to guarantee the substrate is completely free of dust, grease, and impurities before coating. [1, 2] 2.
Chemical Management & Application Solution Preparation:
Handle and accurately combine hazardous and sensitive raw chemicals (including silver nitrate, reducing agents, ammonia, and copper solutions) according to strict mixing formulas. [1, 2, 3]
Chemical Deposition:
Oversee the precise spray-application of the liquid silver film, protective copper layer, and protective backing paints. [1, 2]
Environment Regulation:
Maintain strict cleanroom or wet-room standards, controlling humidity and ambient temperature to avoid chemical contamination. [1, 2] 3.
Quality Assurance & Inspection Defect Detection:
Visually inspect mirrors at various stages of the silvering, painting, and drying cycles to identify bubbles, streaks, black spots, or scratches. [1, 2]
Testing:
Use precision measuring instruments to verify coating thickness, adhesion strength, and optical reflectivity against factory tolerance specifications. [1, 2]
Waste Reduction:
Identify and segregate defective glass panels early in the sequence to prevent unnecessary chemical or paint waste. [1] 4.
Conduct routine cleanings of spray nozzles, chemical lines, and drip trays to prevent silver scaling and blockages.
Safety Adherence:
Strictly wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators, chemical-resistant gloves, and eye protection.
Chemical Disposal:
Safely handle, log, and neutralize hazardous chemical runoff in accordance with OSHA and environmental protection regulations. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Required Qualifications & Skills Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; vocational training in chemical handling, manufacturing technology, or glass working is highly preferred.
Experience:
1-3 years of experience in an industrial manufacturing environment, ideally operating glass processing machinery or chemical spray lines.
Technical Knowledge:
Basic understanding of chemical reactions (e.g., silver nitrate reduction) and comfort operating computerized (PLC) automated equipment.
Physical Stamina:
Ability to stand for up to 10 hours per shift, work in noisy or hot environments, and physically lift and maneuver glass panels weighing up to 50 lbs. Attention to
Detail:
High visual acuity needed to notice microscopic surface contaminants and faint optical deviations. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]
