Job Description

Overview We are seeking a highly skilled CNC Set Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, setting up and testing CNC machines to ensure efficient and precise production components. The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical knowledge, proficiency in CNC programming, and experience with various machining tools and measurement instruments. This position offers an opportunity to contribute to high-quality manufacturing processes within a dynamic and safety-conscious environment. Duties Read and interpret mechanical blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements. Program CNC machines using G-code, M-code, and Fanuc Controls ensuring accurate tool paths for milling, turning, or grinding operations. Set up CNC lathe and milling machines by installing tooling, calibrating machines with precision measurement instruments like calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines. Perform machine setup procedures including fixture installation, tooling changes, and calibration to optimize machining accuracy. Monitor ongoing machining processes for quality control; perform CNC quality inspections using precision measuring instruments to verify dimensions against specifications. Adjust machine parameters as needed to maintain tolerances; troubleshoot issues related to machine operation or tooling. Maintain a clean and organized work area; adhere to safety protocols including proper handling of power tools, hand tools, grinders, welders, and forklift operation. Support continuous improvement initiatives such as lean manufacturing practices and process optimization. Assist with manual machining tasks when required; operate additional equipment like lathes or grinders for secondary operations. Document setup procedures and production data accurately for traceability and quality assurance. Experience Proven experience in CNC machining with a focus on setup and operation of CNC milling machines and lathes. Proficiency in CNC programming languages including G-code and M-code; experience with Fanuc controls preferred. Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), and mechanical blueprint interpretation. Knowledge of machining tools, measurement techniques, and precision measurement instruments including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines. Experience working with manufacturing environments involving plastics injection molding or metal fabrication is advantageous. Mechanical aptitude complemented by basic math skills necessary for precise measurements and calculations. Ability to operate manual machining equipment such as lathes or grinders when required. Understanding of lean manufacturing principles to promote efficiency and waste reduction. Valid certification or training in CNC programming or machine setup is desirable but not mandatory. $20.00 - $35.00 per hour
