Job description: CNC Setup Technician & Operator- Huntley IL, Schedule Mon-Fri (7am-3:30pm) Job Overview The CNC Setup Technician & Operator is responsible for setting up and operating CNC mills and lathes to manufacture precision components according to engineering drawings, work instructions, and customer specifications. This position performs machine setups, selects tooling, verifies part quality, and operates equipment to ensure efficient production of high-quality parts while maintaining safety and productivity standards. Duties Set up and operate CNC machines, specifically Haas Lathe and Haas Mill machines, including tooling, fixtures, workholding, offsets, and machine parameters. Enter and maintain accurate work order, production, and quality data within the ERP system, including labor transactions, inventory updates, and job status reporting. Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, work orders, and machining instructions Select and install cutting tools based on material specifications, tolerances, and production requirements Perform first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring equipment Monitor machining operations and make machine, tooling, and offset adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency Troubleshoot and resolve machining, setup, tooling, and quality issues Collaborate with Engineering and Quality teams to address manufacturing challenges and support production requirements Recommend and implement process improvements to enhance productivity, reduce cycle times, and improve product quality. Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues requiring repair Train and assist CNC operators and setup personnel as needed Follow and comply with all safety programs, company policies, ISO standards, and quality requirements Demonstrate reliable attendance, productivity, and adherence to established company expectations and procedures Communicate workflow delays, operational or equipment concerns, and work order issues to leadership in a timely manner Support and contribute to a safe, clean, and organized work environment while adhering to all safety, quality, and company standards. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed to support team and organizational objectives, consistent with the scope of this role Qualifications Minimum of 2 years of experience setting up and operating Haas CNC mills and lathes in a manufacturing environment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and GD&T specifications. Strong knowledge of CNC machine setup, tooling, offsets, and machining processes. Experience troubleshooting machining, tooling, and production issues to minimize downtime. Familiarity with ERP systems and maintaining accurate production and quality documentation. Understanding of ISO quality standards, Lean Manufacturing, and continuous improvement practices. Strong mechanical attitude with excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. Strong communication, organizational, and time management skills. Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to company policies and procedures. Ability to stand for extended periods and safely lift up to 40 pounds as needed.
