Job Description

CNC VTL operator (Day shift with live tooling) This role involves operating and setting up CNC VTLs (Vertical Turning Lathes), specifically focusing on rough and finish turning and milling large parts to precise tolerances.
Key responsibilities Setup and operation:
This includes interpreting blueprints, reviewing and editing CNC programs, verifying tooling speeds and feeds, and operating the machine to produce high-quality parts on schedule.
Complex setups:
The operator must be capable of performing challenging setups, including blocking, aligning, and securing large forgings. Blueprint and GD&T interpretation: Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications, and part specifications is essential. GD&T ensures the parts meet the required accuracy and geometric tolerances.
CNC programming:
Strong knowledge of CNC controls and programming skills (reading, writing, and editing programs) are required.
Multi-machine operation:
The ability to set up and operate multiple machines to maximize productivity is important.
Precision measurement:
The operator will use various measuring tools, such as micrometers, calipers, and diameter tapes, to ensure parts meet specifications.
Collaboration:
Working cooperatively with all employees to maintain a positive team environment is emphasized.
Safety and maintenance:
Maintaining a clean and orderly work area, adhering to company safety practices, and following standard safety regulations are critical aspects of the job. This includes using personal protective equipment (PPE), like safety glasses, hearing protection, and appropriate footwear, and never wearing gloves when operating the machinery.
Other duties:
Performing other related duties as assigned or directed, falling within the scope of overall responsibility.
Qualifications Experience:
A minimum of three years' experience operating VTLs is required. Live tooling experience (preferred): Experience with the operation of VTLs with live tooling is a plus. Live tooling enables a range of milling, drilling, and other operations directly on the VTL without needing to transfer the part to a different machine, thereby enhancing efficiency and accuracy.
