CNC Set Up Operator

Job Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented CNC Set Up Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you will be responsible for preparing, setting up, and operating CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines to produce precision parts efficiently and accurately. Your expertise will ensure that production runs smoothly, quality standards are met, and safety protocols are followed. Duties Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing) specifications to determine setup requirements. Program CNC machines using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software and verify programs for accuracy before production. Set up CNC milling machines and CNC lathes, including installing tooling, fixtures, and workpieces with precision using calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and other measurement tools. Conduct machine calibration and adjustments to ensure optimal performance during production runs. Operate CNC equipment such as Fanuc-controlled machines while monitoring for quality issues or malfunctions throughout the process. Perform routine maintenance on CNC machinery and troubleshoot mechanical or electrical issues as needed. Maintain detailed records of setups, tool changes, and production data in compliance with quality standards. Adhere to safety guidelines by using hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and other manufacturing tools responsibly. Support lean manufacturing initiatives by identifying opportunities for process improvements and waste reduction. Assist in assembly processes or plastics injection molding when required to support overall production goals. Skills Proven experience with CNC programming and operation of CNC milling machines and CNC lathes. Strong understanding of blueprint reading, GD&T principles, and mechanical drawings. Proficiency in CAM programming software and SolidWorks or CAD for designing or modifying parts. Knowledge of electrical discharge machining (EDM) techniques is a plus. Familiarity with precision measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM). Ability to interpret technical instructions and perform basic math calculations accurately. Mechanical aptitude with a solid understanding of tooling, machining processes, welding techniques, and manufacturing standards. Experience working with Fanuc controls or similar CNC control systems preferred. Ability to operate forklifts safely when moving raw materials or finished products. Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles to optimize workflow efficiency in a fast-paced environment. Strong attention to detail combined with excellent problem-solving skills to troubleshoot machine issues promptly.
