Job Description

The CNC Oxy-Fuel Burner is responsible for operating CNC-controlled oxy-fuel cutting equipment to accurately cut steel plate in accordance with customer drawings, nesting programs, and production schedules. This role ensures precise cuts, material traceability, and efficient plate utilization while maintaining strict adherence to safety and quality standards in a steel manufacturing environment. Responsibilities Operate CNC oxy-fuel cutting machines to cut steel plate to specified dimensions, tolerances, and bevel requirements. Read and interpret CNC programs, cut lists, blueprints, CAD drawings, and work orders to ensure accurate execution of jobs. Load, verify, and select correct CNC cutting programs, confirming material thickness, grade, and heat numbers prior to cutting. Set up cutting parameters including torch height, gas pressures, pierce points, lead-ins/outs, and cutting speeds. Monitor cutting operations to ensure quality edge finish, minimal slag, and dimensional accuracy. Verify material traceability before and after cutting, ensuring parts remain properly marked and identified. Measure finished parts using tape measures, straightedges, and other measuring tools to confirm compliance with specifications. Maximize plate yield and scrap utilization through efficient nesting and proper machine operation. Coordinate with material handlers and crane operators to safely stage, load, and unload steel plate. Forklift and overhead crane experience. Perform routine machine inspections, cleaning, and preventive maintenance per established schedules. Identify and report equipment malfunctions, program issues, or quality concerns to supervision. Maintain accurate production documentation, including cut completion and job tracking information. Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area in compliance with housekeeping and safety standards. Follow all safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies at all times. Assist with cross-training and support other burn shop operations as needed. Perform other duties as assigned to support production objectives. Qualifications Minimum of2 years of CNC oxy-fuel burning experience in a steel plate or heavy manufacturing environment preferred. Strong understanding of CNC cutting operations, oxy-fuel theory, and gas safety practices. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, nesting layouts, and CNC programs. Experience working with thick plate steel and large-format burn tables. Proficient in using measuring tools to verify part accuracy. Basic computer skills for CNC program navigation and production tracking. Experience operating overhead cranes or forklifts preferred (certification a plus). Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety. Ability to work in a physically demanding industrial environment.

The employee is occasionally exposed to outdoor weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
