CNC Mill Operator Job Description This role focuses on setting up and operating CNC milling machines to produce precision components from steel materials. You will use precision measuring tools, follow detailed blueprints, and work with multi-axis CNC mills to support a high-quality manufacturing operation that produces hydraulic actuators. Responsibilities Set up and operate CNC milling machines, including performing different setups from blocks through to running programs. Work with multi-axis CNC mills to machine steel components according to engineering specifications. Load, secure, and align workpieces and tooling in the CNC mills to ensure accurate machining. Read and interpret blueprints to determine dimensions, tolerances, and sequence of operations. Adjust and manage machine offsets to maintain dimensional accuracy and part quality. Select, load, and use appropriate cutting tools based on material, part geometry, and required finish. Apply knowledge of speeds and feeds to optimize machining efficiency and surface finish while protecting tool life. Monitor tool wear and manage tool life, replacing or adjusting tools as needed to maintain quality and productivity. Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to inspect parts and verify conformance to specifications. Work with multiple grades of steel and adjust machining parameters accordingly. Follow established work instructions and production schedules to meet output and quality targets. Collaborate with team members and support staff to troubleshoot machining issues and improve processes. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area in accordance with company safety standards. Be available and willing to work overtime as production needs require. Essential Skills 1-3 years of CNC mill operation experience. Hands-on experience machining steel materials on CNC mills. Experience operating multi-axis CNC milling machines. Ability to set up and operate CNC mills, including different setups and program runs. Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints. Ability to adjust machine offsets and understand the impact on part dimensions. Strong understanding of tooling, including selection, loading, and proper usage. Knowledge of speeds and feeds and how to apply them for different steel grades. Ability to determine and follow the correct sequence of machining operations. Experience using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges. Capability to manage tool life and monitor tool wear during production. Willingness and ability to work overtime as needed. Reliable transportation to commute to the worksite. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience with CNC mills from manufacturers such as Mazak, Okuma, and DMG. Previous experience in a manufacturing environment producing hydraulic or mechanical components. Familiarity with machining multiple grades of steel and adjusting processes accordingly. Comfort working on second shift or flexible to support different shifts as needed. Openness to contract-to-hire or direct hire opportunities depending on fit and performance. Work Environment This position is based in a manufacturing facility that produces hydraulic actuators. You will work around CNC milling machines and related equipment in a production environment focused on steel machining. The role is offered as a temp-to-hire opportunity, with potential for direct hire depending on fit. The standard schedule for the second shift is Monday through Friday, 1:15 PM to 9:45 PM, with frequent overtime opportunities that can extend weekly hours to around 50. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Enumclaw, WA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.78 - $28.78/hr.
