Key Responsibilities:
- Able to produce CNC programs from CAM software. Fusion360 preferred.
Machine Setup:
Set up and prepare milling and lathe machines by selecting the appropriate cutting tools, work holding, and machine settings based on instructions given by the engineering department. This includes loading materials and securing them in the machine.Machine Operation:
Operate milling and lathe machines to perform cutting, shaping, and machining tasks on various plastic materials.Quality Control:
Monitor the machining process to ensure that the finished parts meet the required specifications and quality standards. Use measuring instruments like calipers, micrometers, and gauges to verify the accuracy of the work. Take notes and communicate to section lead if deviation is found or created.Tool Maintenance:
Regularly inspect and maintain tools, including sharpening or replacing them when necessary. Ensure that the machines are well-maintained and report any issues.Safety:
Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and injuries while operating the machines. Properly handle and dispose of any waste materials.Blueprint Interpretation:
Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to understand the machining requirements and tolerances.Problem Solving:
Troubleshoot and adjust the machines when issues arise, such as tool wear, work piece misalignment, or other production problems.Documentation:
Maintain production logs, records, and reports of completed work, including information on materials used, machine settings, and production times.Collaboration:
Coordinate with team members, engineers, and supervisors to meet production goals and ensure quality and timely delivery of components.Communication:
Provide daily updates and report on all products that are machined, accepted, or scrapped based on the blueprint drawing specifications. Daily updates are provided to the section lead.Minimum Qualifications:
- Familiar with CNC Routers, CNC Mills, and CNC Lathes.
- Must be able to perform their own set-ups.
- Competently edits programs manually and sets origins and offsets. Documents any edits to programs for end of project review.
Precision:
Can hold tolerances of +- .001 or better.
- Familiar with print reading and GD&T.
Accuracy:
Can reproduce a consistent and repeatable product across a batch job.- Reliable and efficient with a good work ethic.
- Able to diagnose/troubleshoot standard manufacturing issues.
- Proficient with work holding methods.
- 1-2 years of experience using precision machining within the last 5 years.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Functions independently to operate CNC Routers, CNC Mills, and CNC Lathes.
- Must be able to perform their own set-ups. Can create or collaborate with Engineering to 3D printed fixtures.
- Proficient in editing programs manually and setting origins and offsets. Documents any edits to programs for end of project review.
- Proficient in manufacturing to-print. Independently understands and interprets GD&T.
Precision:
Understands best method to hold and maintain tolerances of +- .001 or better across a batch of product.
Accuracy:
Can reproduce consistent and repeatable product yield across a batch of 100 or more.- Reliable and efficient with a good work ethic.
- Proactively diagnoses/troubleshoots standard manufacturing issues to improve yield and turnaround time.
- Proficient with work holding methods.
- Combination of precision machining education and/or +2 years' work experience.
