Job Title:
CNC Lathe Programmer Machinist Job Description This role focuses on programming and operating a CNC lathe with live tooling to produce precision components such as cam shafts, bearings, bearing caps, torque converters, and clutches from materials including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum You will create programs both on a laptop and directly at the machine, ensuring high-quality, accurate parts in a clean, climate-controlled environment Job Responsibilities Program CNC lathes with live tooling using Mastercam, both on a laptop and directly at the machine control Set up CNC lathes, including tooling selection, tool offsets, work offsets, and machine preparation for production Machine precision components such as cam shafts, bearings, bearing caps, torque converters, clutches, and similar parts Work with a variety of materials, including steel, stainless steel, and aluminum, adjusting tooling and parameters as needed Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to determine machining requirements and tolerances Edit and optimize existing CNC programs to improve efficiency, quality, and cycle time Inspect parts during and after machining to ensure they meet dimensional and quality specifications Troubleshoot machining issues, including tool wear, surface finish problems, and dimensional deviations Maintain a clean and organized work area in accordance with facility standards Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth workflow and consistent production output Essential Skills Minimum 5+ years of experience in CNC machine setup, program editing, tooling, offsets, and programming Proficiency in Mastercam programming from scratch for CNC lathe applications Hands-on experience operating and programming CNC lathes, including machines with live tooling Ability to program both on a laptop and at the machine control Strong blueprint reading skills, including understanding of dimensions, tolerances, and geometric features Experience machining components such as cam shafts, bearings, bearing caps, torque converters, and clutches Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Auburn Hills, MI. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
