M-Th, 7:00 AM - 5:30 PM Position Overview Join the Modus Advanced team as a Coating Technician and play a critical role in applying precision spray coatings to components used in life-saving medical devices, mission-critical defense systems, and aerospace applications. In this hands-on role, you'll operate spray coating equipment to apply EMI shielding, thermal management, and protective coatings that directly impact the performance and reliability of our customers' most critical products. The coatings you apply provide essential functionality—shielding sensitive electronics from electromagnetic interference, protecting components from environmental exposure, and enabling thermal management in high-performance systems. Your precision and consistency ensure that every part leaving our facility performs exactly as designed when it matters most.
Key Responsibilities:
Spray Coating Operations Operate spray coating equipment to apply coatings to metal and plastic components per engineering specifications Set up and calibrate spray equipment including spray guns, pressure settings, and material flow rates Mix and prepare coating materials according to manufacturer specifications and work instructions Apply uniform coatings to specified thicknesses and coverage requirements Monitor coating parameters to ensure consistency across production runs Perform touch-up applications as needed to meet quality standards Surface Preparation Prepare part surfaces for coating application through cleaning, degreasing, and surface treatment Verify masking is properly applied before beginning coating operations Inspect parts for contamination, defects, or conditions that could affect coating adhesion Coordinate with masking team on preparation requirements and sequencing Quality Control and Inspection Perform in-process inspections of coated parts for uniformity, thickness, and adhesion Use measurement tools to verify coating thickness meets engineering specifications Identify and quarantine non-conforming parts according to quality procedures Document quality measurements and maintain process records Support root cause analysis for coating defects and process variations Equipment Maintenance and Safety Perform routine maintenance on spray equipment including cleaning, calibration, and preventive care Maintain spray booth cleanliness and environmental controls Follow all safety protocols for handling coating materials and chemicals Properly store and handle coating materials per manufacturer and safety requirements Use required personal protective equipment throughout all coating operations Maintain organized work areas following 5S principles
Required Qualifications:
Education and Experience Ability to read, understand, and communicate in English High school diploma or equivalent required 1-2 years of experience in spray coating, painting, or similar surface finishing operations preferred Experience in manufacturing or precision assembly environment preferred Experience in aerospace, defense, or medical device manufacturing a plus Technical Skills Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and work instructions Understanding of spray coating techniques and equipment operation Knowledge of surface preparation methods and coating material properties Proficiency with measurement tools for coating thickness verification Basic understanding of quality control principles Computer literacy for data entry and documentation Physical Requirements Ability to stand for extended periods while operating spray equipment Manual dexterity for precise spray application and handling of components Visual acuity to inspect coating quality and identify defects Ability to wear required PPE including respirator for entire shift Ability to lift up to 25 pounds when handling materials and parts Comfort working in spray booth and controlled manufacturing environment Personal Attributes Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality Reliable and consistent work ethic Patience and focus for precise, repetitive work Commitment to safety standards and procedures Good communication skills for coordinating with team members Willingness to learn and follow established procedures Adaptability to work with various coating materials and part configurations
